So my fibre was activated on the 16/03/2018 with MWEB on a 40Mbps uncapped package, I was throttled on the 30/03/2016 having used just over 300GB, so my projected usage for 30 days would be about 600-700GB, i called MWEB yesterday to find out what the threshold is on my package and the answer was 440GB, thats insane. In comparison isn't Telkoms threshold about 1.8Tb on a similiar package?

Where can we get the latest threshold comparisons from, i would like to see what other IPS's offer, and also the different ways they manage their uncapped customers.

And also does the, ADSL capped accounts working on Openserve Fibre, still apply?

mweb has bad thresholds on their normal packages... if you want better onces you have to go premium. I would suggest Cool Ideas... have been with them for 7 months now. uncapped unshapped... paying R1119 for 100/10... doing about 1TB a month

Problem is that its only been a month with mweb, so i will have to pay them back for their crap fibre router and connection fee.

I agree. Try and get away from M-Web and go to Cool Ideas. Perhaps find out how much they want you to pay in.

i don't know what provider you are on. but on vumatel its R1119 pm for 100/10 and R1219 for 100/100
not only one of the most affordable isp's out there but great service and @PbCool very active on this forum

Try RSAWEB. Email me on [email protected] and I will give you a call.

Sorry, but you chaps don't impress me. Sent me an sms saying you in my area and I must reply to get the party started. I did - heard nothing from you. Sent you one saying "you guys suck" and you didn't even bother responding to that :)

Hmm. Vuma laying cable outside my house as we speak - yay! However, the brochure dropped in my box 100/10 uncapped at R1299 a month. Why is your 100/100 cheaper?

You throttled on 300gb usage. I do 4tb of seeding on torrents alone a month with no throttling...

Thats why i am very confused, whats the point having high speed internet when you can't use it, high speed for 10 days and throttled for 20 days. I don't even download that much, it's streaming 80% of the time.

Currently sitting on 516GB (of which 71.93GB is night time data, apparently that doesnt count towards the threshold), since the 16/03/2018 to 04/04/2018, throttled since the 30/03/2018.

Change your ISP.

I don't do much. Only around 1 TB a month and always get full speed on Cool Ideas.

Change to Cool Ideas ;). The coolest ISP out there!!!

I send the same query to MWEB because I am in the process of switching from ADSL to Fibre. I was also told the threshold is 300 Gb however on a 40Mb ADSL line it is 850 Gb. This made no sense to me and the call centre agent could not provide an explanation why the difference either. I'm yet to get a response to my email I send to [email protected].

Rather use a proper ISP and you will save a lot of time and money.

Not that Vodacom is a proper ISP but Vodacom fibre on Openserve is R1315 with a 2.2TB fair use policy.... That seems reasonable I think.

Mweb is R1309 for the same deal except they have a fair use policy of ~600GB....

Go figure. @OP basically chose the worse possible ISP. Even Cfibre would have been a better option over MWeb. It's not even like Mweb is so much cheaper anyways.

Yeah, CFibre R1,259 uncapped, unshaped, unthrottled, at least has been my experience (most) of the time thus far.

at what point does a MyBB member decide to use Mweb? I was always under the impression that Mweb is absolute rubbish. Every tech person i know feels that way too.

Switch ISP's. AND LISTEN stay away from all the ADSL Fibre Providers, Stay away from Vodacom and MTN.

If there is a threshold on your fibre package, not matter how big or small, stay away.

If they shape your fibre, stay away

If they offer a capped package, stay away.

Learn now, listen and move.

All i can gather from this is that possibly old people use MWEB as they are rather stubborn to convince. Had it with a client the other day that really really wanted to stay with MWEB due to his email address as i was like im done. People only seem to stay either email or because back in the day they only knew of them. They have shiit service and throttle the living daylights out of people.
