MWeb to offer triple-play service

But this is not "triple play" at all. It's simply a bundle of services (DSTV, VoIP and Internet). If the DSTV was over the same DSL link then yes. I think they are simply using the term "triple play", in order to sell it. Wonder if this can't be seen as false advertising?

Sure it is cheaper, but then it is all services that the same company is providing.

MWeb cannot offer a true triple play service, as surely they would need a PayTV license?

Thayer says that, strictly speaking, the MWeb service is not yet triple-play as the signals are not all being carried over the same telecom pipe, but she says the company has plans to introduce what it calls a “true triple-play” solution down the line.

You must have missed that part :D

Title should read Triple-PAY - its mweb after all.

There are some savings to be had... even if it isn't proper tripple play.

Yep, nothing short of earth-shattering from MWeb will convince me to be an MWeb customer [again] - for me MWeb is in the same category as TelkodemonopoliesHindernet and its exorbitant pricing.

How can they use this false terminology?
It is not tripple play!
Tripple play involves one service provider offering 3 services, namely a telephone line, Broadband and a TV Service.
Now, at this point they can only call it double-play!
False Advertising = Legal Action!

This is good news. Putting some presure on NeoTel & Telkom (hopefully) to get their act together and start delivering some competition. Someone has to get the ball rolling, and stop waiting for someone else to do something. Now at least (although a very expensive one) there is a base model to work from. All that needs to happen now is for this offering to fall flat on it's face, due to the high price, and then prices will have to come down. Unfortunately MWeb's market is mostly the "uninformed" part of the population (well IMO anyway) so they will probably get away with it for a bit, but it's a start.

Come now NeoTel bring on the competition!

She says the next-generation of MultiChoice PVR decoders, which will be introduced next year to cater for the company’s launch of high-definition TV
It is a means to reduce the stock of old decoders now, and sell the unsuspecting customer another one next year.

""MWEB’s Broadband Talk service is currently available free of charge to all MWEB subscribers and competes directly against Vox Telecom’s VoIP service.""

Now, if you already have ADSL why not use VOIPBUSTER or VOIPBUSTER PRO and make free international calls to land lines, 36c per minute to SA land lines and have no subscription charges?!

Go MWEB and VOX! (to hell!)

thank goodness i didn't buy a pvr now! When and if this service takes off should be good for a while until they change their prices.

ps. like the electricity going up by 14% to subsidize their "improvements"

Problem with Mweb is that the router will be locked to Mweb accounts only, so you wont even be able to use another ISP's account with it.
They always seems to lock their routers on bundle deals.

Uh, triple play? On a 1Gig bundle?

Isn't it only triple play if the voice and television portion of the service don't add to your usage limit? Does this mean triple play subscribers can watch as much as they want without worrying about hitting a limit? Also, what kind of picture quality do you get on an entry level line? That all sounds a tad dodgy to me.

I mean it's great that we are finally seeing this kind of offering, but MWeb always strikes me as the kind of companythat takes advantage of the unsuspecting public. I mean just look at what they charge for their 1Gig bundle.

I'm sorry but this doesn't really sound like triple play to me.
