MWeb to offer triple-play service

Should they go ahead and market their "triple-play" service on Sunday my complaint will be lodged at the ASA first thing on Monday morning.

It's not on.
 
I think it's a sign of things to come. Any downward pressure on pricing is welcomed by me. It's gonna be an interesting year (2008).

Someone has to get the ball rolling, and stop waiting for someone else to do something. Now at least (although a very expensive one) there is a base model to work from. The problem is that it might not fall flat (since some people have more money than sense, or don't know better); and if it does, it will be difficult to prove to them that it was because it was too expensive as opposed to people just not being interested.

(Similar to the DRM-free iTunes - if people don't buy them, is it because they are too expensive, or because people don't care about DRM? )

Hmm you have a point, all we can hope for then is that some real sometition gets going because of this, and NO price fixing deals are made.
 
Does this include a DSTV PVR subscription (R50 more than the normal subscription)? It must if they are including a PVR decoder in their hardware bundle.

I'm on the phone with M-Web right now. Have been holding for about 10 mins for the operator to figure out what this package is about. They obviously haven't been informed yet...

You're locked into a 24 month contract. Only R 599 for the first 12 months, thereafter R 699!

Tripple play involves one service provider offering 3 services, namely a telephone line, Broadband and a TV Service.
Now, at this point they can only call it double-play!

If this is your criteria it is triple play. Don't see anything that says it has to use the same medium and don't think there is a formal definition either.

Isn't it only triple play if the voice and television portion of the service don't add to your usage limit? Does this mean triple play subscribers can watch as much as they want without worrying about hitting a limit? Also, what kind of picture quality do you get on an entry level line? That all sounds a tad dodgy to me.

I mean it's great that we are finally seeing this kind of offering, but MWeb always strikes me as the kind of companythat takes advantage of the unsuspecting public. I mean just look at what they charge for their 1Gig bundle.

I'm sorry but this doesn't really sound like triple play to me.

The 1GB is only for your internet. The tv part is their existing DSTV. Nobody can deliver tv over internet here until 2011 (10Mb/s). :D

Good old fashoined South African business practice... con the consumer with false advertising and lock them in to a 2 year contract before competition forces lower prices and better products...

Fark M-Web, they won't be getting my business, even though Ms Thayer is quite a hunny! :p
 
Anyone who signs a 24 month contract for any of these services is just plain stupid. Prices are gonna drop, drop, drop. Bring on 2008.

Here's a question, how do operators provide 100 to 200 channels overseas for R 100 per month? I know most are junk but there some good channels including HBO, SCIFI, 2 or 3 Discovery channels, at least 10 movie channels (showing the same movies as Movie Magic), ESPN 1 & 2, other sports channels showing the soccer shown on SuperSport.

I quite interested how much it costs per user per channel? For example how much would I pay for individual channels as opposed to the bouquet?

I would guess that they are willing to accept smaller profit margins.
