MWEB uncapped account holder... but currently capped

He can do more on a normal Afrihost uncapped ADSL account than one a MWEB super ultimate gold with sprinkles on top account. Maybe try normal first.

I know you're a cheap bastard, but have you actually seen the AF feedback thread? It's horrible. I wouldn't touch the normal account with a barge pole.

Exactly the reason I have not considered Afrihost. They also blocked certain ports on the cheaper option at one stage (3-4 years ago). Have no idea why they would even think of doing that.

But I will look into some of their business options.

Get a normal account, use it for a while and if you aren't satisfied with the results upgrade it. I know you're not your mother's brightest child but even you should see that it makes sense.

With the feedback thread as it is, no point wasting a persons a time. Unless you wanna touch the same hot stove and burn yourself after many people already have just so you can see for yourself?

Seems you not the brightest. You will get further in life learning from other people's mistakes than just your own.

Hi Mweb guy. I am looking for a new ISP myself, I have a 10mb line with you guys and pay R1099 a month. The accounts department told me that if i take the R699 10mb i will have a cap of only 300gig.

Morning impressionnant, the 10MB standard package has a threshold of approximately 250GB. This does not include upload data though.

It's the threshold after which you will be throttled. So your choice. If you get tyhe premium option you can get around 1000GBs.

Oh ok, but is that competitive though. I am new to the ISP game I guess I only ever used MWEB, I am definitely going to upgrade my account to 20 - 40mb line when it is available in my area, I want to know if I am getting a good deal for my money. From what i understand is that there are a lot of cheaper options with other companies, but do they deliver the same quality service ?

I currently have a 10 meg line and my usage is uaully around the 200-250GB mark. So for me 300GBs would be perfect. All depends on your usage. I pay R999 just for my data though. So a little more than what MWEB charges.

I do have a Mweb 10mb premium account which I pay for R1099 a month, I want to upgrade to the 20 - 40mb line i would like to know what the threshold would be and how competitive the pricing is. thank you for the trail account i will forward it to a friend of mine that wants to test a few ISP's. oh and is it ok if I use my own DNS settings ? I tried to configure the new router you guys supplied me with but it wont allow me to change the DNS settings, Is there a way to do that ?

We do not advise that you change the DNS settings on the FON router, however it can be done.

It can be done where the DHCP settings are done

Your manners on the other hand are something else. The stance MWEB have taken on this forum is very snide and it was very enjoyable to watch you piss away a R900 per month customer. Thats 2 less gigs a month for ol Hershaw!

And yes I know, unshaped is the way to go for mass downloading. I just wish you people would stop calling your products uncapped, when they aren't. Throttling people down to nothing and telling them to behave themselves while using your product that they have paid for and now have to sit in the sin bin for 30 days (rolling windows, what a joke) so you can fleece them some more. I don't even know how you guys expect to retain business. Oh yes, off lil old ladies and brand loyalists from the Black Box days that don't know any better. Sure, the service is great, because everyone is too afraid to download anything large for fear of being sent to Slow Speed Hell.

Free the Web was more like Entrap the Customers.

Cancelled with Mweb a looooong time ago. If I remember right I had an argument with a manager there on the phone about their service not really being uncapped. Will never ever go back to their shoddy "broadband" offerings.

I went a bit crazy with Telkom 4mb uncapped this month. Now throttled and everything is slooooow like hell... I bought extra capped data to download things that I need quickly.

It's a real shame the way things are here in SA. If you look at the kind of speeds and bandwidth available to people in the US, Europe and many other countries then SA's best offerings are a joke. Especially if you start to compare pricing.

The only thing that will improve the lot of Broadband in SA would be competition with the provision of fixed line broadband. Even if Vodacom and MTN started rolling out Fibre to the home tomorrow en-mass to all residential areas, it would probably still take years for competition to bring down the price of fixed line broadband. :(

Wish things were different here in SA regarding broadband.

Just pay for proper internet. Business accounts are so affordable these days.
