MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

For the last 3-4 days I've been unable to connect to the Mweb news server yet other people tell me it's working for them. What is the story here? I'm from Durban and getting the following error;

Cannot connect to server news.mweb.co.za:119 [400 Cannot connect to NNTP server 196.28.78.229 (196.28.78.229:119), connect error 10054]

Edit: Ok so I connected via pppoe directly from my machine and now it connects. Very strange, wonder why that should make a difference.

This really isn't okay - it's been like this for almost a week now. I know everything looks fine on your end, but could you try resetting ports or *something* - anything? I've reset routers, tried different devices, plugged in the line in all manner of ways.

I have reauthed your account allow 30 minutes then restart.

I have tested your line and I see the attenuation is high on 59db.

Contact Telkom and get them to recreate your port

I know the attenuation is high, I really can't do anything about that short of moving. I did get ahold of another account to try and it's still miserably slow, so I guess it's time to play musical chairs on the phone with Telkom. Thanks for the support.

I was skyping with my sister in Canada and seeing her son for the first time, thanks to Mweb it was all garbled, stuttering, pixelated garbage! I will return my vengeance ten fold on MWEB, YOU HEAR ME, TEN FOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh wait it was probably just the rain, nm.

Anyone else been having problems with Guild Wars 2, typically during Dragon events?

I never used to have any lag issues, this started a couple of days ago where I got disconnected for the very first time. Every other time after that has been a total lag fest where I am often unable to even move from my spot as I rubber band back to it.

My ping during these events is approximately 300ms and when solo running around 200ms. I also see other South African players complaining and some not.

Location: Plumstead, Cape Town

Yes, I am aware of the Clareinch outage, that shouldn't affect me though.

Don't have any problems here :) Very happy with the service. I'm on the 1mb uncapped. Latency on games are super low. Specially if I play on local servers. For CS:GO normal ping is 5 - 45. :D

Good Morning StevenC,

Are you still experiencing this problem with Guild Wars2?

Also have you tried reboot your router and dropping your line back to 1mb as a test?

Is there any other traffic you are obtaining a problem with? Please also provide me tracers to a local and international website, i.e. bbc.co.uk and mweb.co.za

Good Morning saffakanera, sorry to hear about this. We wouldn't want to disrupt a moment like this ever.

There many things that could have caused this though.

Did the problem re-occur, are you having any other trouble with your connection?

Logged on this morning, during a normal dynamic event I had about a minutes worth of lag where I could just run around with nothing happening. Waiting on dragon spawn right now but in the interim I have reset my router and done tracers.

My MWEB account is 1MB Uncapped / Shaped. My Telkom line is currently syncing at 2MB (which I am going to downgrade).
I am not running downloads or any other streaming while events happen (even though I used to be able to stream internet radio 192k stream and limit downloads to 50Kb/s while doing anything in the game).

I don't seem to have a problem with any other sorts of traffic besides NNTP downloads bouncing up and down from max speed to low speed constantly. Youtube streaming seems fine if not a little bit sluggish. HTTP downloads seem to be fine except from Hotfile where it sometimes fails but I think that is a problem on their side on certain files (nothing illegal, legit downloads like podcasts).

Your tracers seem normal, please let me know if syncing your line to 1mb helps with you gaming and general experience.

If if doesn't we will test Guild Wars2 from our side and see if we are able to replicate the problem.

Yesterday was really bad. HTTP downloads around 10k/s, same for newshost from the mweb server.

Good Afternoon, what are your speeds like today? Did you obtain 10k/s all day yesterday? Was that with all the files you tried downloading?

Would I need to phone Telkom to make it sync to 1MB? Why would this make a difference on a 1MB account? Also it was not a problem since they did the line speed upgrade, only in the last 3 or 4 days.

Also just tested dragon event, was not as bad as the last few days but still a little laggy (after router reset). This may also be due to the amount of people participating as it is a weekday morning.

Ok, you don't have to drop the line speed. If your experience is better now, then let me know when the problem re-occurs.

You are right though, the number of people playing at any given time could impact on your experience.

I will monitor the situation throughout the day. 1MB is still decent to play on though, even on full scale WvWvW battles so I doubt it may be the amount of people playing causing my current issue with complete non responsiveness, though I will concede that more players = more lag.

Please keep me informed and if the problem re-occurs we will do some testing from our side.
