MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Thank you for your prompt response.

Just to clarify. Are you saying that MWEB is testing this internally before asking their current subscribers to test? Or do you mean it's being tested by users already and will rolled out as service when that is done?

I'm not sure, but as far as I know we will probably start testing internally first...

Thanks again for your response. Bit disappointing to hear that the status/direction is not yet known, but hopefully it get disclosed soon.

Always a pleasure.. we cant wait for the trial period to be completed... by time SA joins the rest of the world with true ADSL speeds... :D

True. Also Frustrating to know that I'm a stones throw away from the MSAN, synced at ADSL 2+, want to be part of the testing, but have to wait. sigh

Code:
Modulation : ADSL2+
Annex Mode : Annex A/L
Line State : up
SNR Up : 10.1
SNR Down : 30.8
Line Attenuation Up : 4.3
Line Attenuation Down : 2.6
Data Rate Up : 1021
Data Rate Down : 10015

I know what you mean... lets hope the testing phase is not to long....

Looking at these results, you have allot of data intensive programmes running at the same time. This will impact on your experience. YOu only have a 1mb account and it seems like you have multiple devices active.

you could try closing some of these programmes, like drop box, skype, your nntp downloads or team-viewer and test the traffic individually.

It never was a problem
I run DU meter, that show me if there is any activity on my line and i have Netlimiter on the line as well so i know what exactly is using the line. At the moment all the app's just listening and if one goes active i can throttle it with Netlimiter if i need the line.

Kimbo by the looks of things, you are maxing out your line. You will definitely have problems with speeds. You have way too many active data intensive traffic running simultaneously.

Hey MWEB Guy

I just saw now in my account information that I also get 300 free wifi minutes per month (which is awesome). The how to just explains by using the web interface on your laptop. Can I use the browser on my android phone/ipad etc to connect to the service the same way as on the notebook? All the malls that I frequent has coverage and I didn't even know you guys add this for free.

Good Morning phoneJunky, thats correct. You should be able to connect with your android phone/iPad the same way as your notebook.

Trace complete.

Afternoon kdawg, Your previous speed test results provide is not that bad for a 1mb line. I think the most concerning factor would be the ping.

Your tracer results seem fine though...

When you did the speed test, was there any active traffic on your network? How where you connecting, wirelessly or via cable?

Odd collection of sites are taking absolute ages to load, dunno if it's Mweb side or not? (This page took 7 mins to load)

MyBB is super slow here - Everything else fine.

I was having the same problems the whole day so I got Telkom to reset the ports and all seems much better now. I couldn't even open MyBB all day

Also had trouble earlier with Mweb and Telkom, so think the problem lies somewhere else.

MWEB has been sucking intermittently yesterday and now today as well.

Good Morning Space_Chief, please provide me your MWEB account details via inbox messaging.

Did you do the speed test with no active traffic on your network?

Yes.

For some reason now files are downloading at full speed, but if I pause that and re-run speedtest, it won't go past the ping test and times out on "connecting".

if the application is still open, the chances are that the data is still active. Therefore your results won't be active when pausing your downloads.

I'm weary of using those free minutes. The password one uses is the MWEB password/username and it could be captured by an "eavesdropper" on an unsecured implementation of the WiFi. It would be better if MWEB would allow us to create a different username/pass combination for that Wifi.
