Its really weird at home last night and this morning, internet is working fine (was youtubing till late last night) but strangely at work both yesterday (since early morning) and since this morning, international is unbrowsable and times out :/

My work has a 2 meg Mweb connection uncapped(Premium/Business IIRC), and my home has the 4meg Premium, its just weird...

I cant seem to even get onto google, it takes about 3 mins to load google's homepage and then when i want to search something it just doesnt load... its so frustrating!! all the other pages only loads half the page, i have tried rebooting the router like a million times and still nothing~~ please HELP!!

Well I've been with Mweb for close on 2 years and I have generally been happy with their service. For the past few months I've been contemplating moving to another provider because there are "better" deals out there. R539 for 4MB uncapped is not cheap and I had hoped Mweb was going to reduce their prices but instead adsl became "premium adsl" and they introduced a cheaper throttled service. This current outage and lack of network redundancy has given me reason to move. I sent through my termination yesterday. Just hoping that I get equivalent if not better service from the new ISP. I would of stayed with Mweb if their pricing was better.

Hi Guys

I am finding it very strange. My speed on my 1mb MWEB uncapped is crippled since Seacom went down and I understand that. But what I don't understand is as soon as I use my 1gb free Afrihost account my speed is flying like normal???

Can some of the experts in this section try to explain to me in common English language why Afrihost is fine but Mweb not???

P.S I am not angry or anything. Just trying to understand this dilemma.

Thank you

Mweb and Afrhihost do not use the same cable system or back-up cable system.

It's pretty simple dude. Mweb relies entirely on Seacom and has very poor redundancy.

Afrihost uses WACS and EASSY,
Afrihost also lost its transit on EASSY cable, it takes the same route as SEACOM cable, so we assume the same fate hit both cables.
Afrihost automatically cut over to its backup bandwidth on WACS, so there was a slight drop in the overall throughputs speeds when EASSY was lost, but it was not noticeable.
Afrihost then just tweaked the QoS Shaping to give certain protocols priority, example give less priority to nntp, torrents, and priority to email and normal browsing, normal http download is also at a slightly lower priority so instead of getting full download speed you get around +- 75%

Wow thanks for the quick response guys.

I must admit it is sad to see such a big company not have sufficient backup capabilities for its users.

mwebguy, if you read this and have access to communicate with the directors of Mweb please ask them why the customers have to pay Mweb for their services when other ISP out there have backup systems in place that works nearly at 80% efficiency.

Thank you

Very few sites load for me still, and simple stuff like mail don't work at all.

Something is working now!

Thanks for all the help, MWEB Guy!

The silent majority who kept quiet through this thing are really appreciative of your work and efforts to calm the situation.

18 hours of downtime is not the end of the world!
