OK I'm going out now, back late tonight, and if its not sorted by then.... then I dunno, guess it will depend how I feel at that time. Quite disappointed with mweb this year so far.

Speeds are OK now. Youtube steaming is working like normal for me
Correction. Youtube streams fine but all other sites time out. Very weird. I am switching to a non MWeb account as i need to download stuff.

Couldn't open MyBB so back on Afrihost

Interestingly, I usually ping Google's 8.8.8.8 to check for connectivity and today it's suddenly 175ms (both on Mweb and Afrihost) where it usually runs at about 185-200ms.

Either the backup routing is better or I've been removed from the authorities' surveillance list. :D

Hi All

With regards to the SEACOM outage.

We've had feedback for the engineers that good progress is being made on the restoration and they are confident it will be completed today. We'll update you again if the situation changes.

is that now for the redundancy or for seacom? the latter just means that your backup plan did not work out....

Mine is super dead. Except for speedtest.net which works perfectly.
Nice way to cover it up...

Hi Rouxenator

Your connection shouldn't be totally down but only slow.
I'm picking up your router connection. Can you not open any website at all?

I'm on FNB as Mweb have kindly reversed my shaping so while I can't even access Google my torrents are flying at capped speeds. I'm not complaining about Mweb, they've been absolutely brilliant to me, but I am complaining that Seacom finds it impossible to protect their cables.

but I am complaining that Seacom finds it impossible to protect their cables.

I am interested to know, how you would propose that telecommunications company protect their undersea cables, or how telkom prevents cable theft or even eskom.

What about sun interference for geostationary orbit satellites that happens during certain months of the year, or DSTV signal when it's raining.

I don't know, I'm not an engineer, at a guess I'd say bury them deeper so anchors can't hit them? :D My point is Seacom seems to go down more than all the other lines put together, why is this?

Yes. It really does not seem to be rocket science.

Rocket scientist?! My God! Why don't you just tell them I'm a toll taker at the Golden Gate Bridge! Rocket scientist, how humiliating!

:D

Hi MWG

Any idea when we'll be able to play online again?
The Afrihost free gb has shocking latency on my side and Telkom for some reason isn't that much better.

Many thanks
