MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Awww, was just rejoicing that I'm getting the lowest ever latency to the servers in the States I've ever had - 251ms - now I see it's because of WACS and it will switch back to crappy again :(

Back to the 300 ping and packet loss ...... geezuz Mweb, seriously.

Just a quick early morning update, the problem last night was due to a major power outage in London. One of our 10Gb circuits was restored at around 23h30 and both were back online just before 01h00.

Everything should be back to normal now - have a great day! :D

Your backup (WACS) provided me with better latency than regular. Today when all is 'fixed', I have crap latency, crap packet loss, crap streaming and downloads capping at 100kbps.

PS - I sat at home waiting for a call yesterday that never came. Despite me giving my number, there were 5 calls made to the wrong number. I don't wanna waste my time waiting for calls, just please fix the problem.

Hi Mephisto-Helix

Thanks for the information.

I checked on our side and I can see that our technical specialist will be in contact with you around 3pm.

Can I ask what sort of speeds everyone here is getting from the MWEB nntp server?

When I originally signed up with MWEB i got speeds of 100 to 200 KB/s (bytes). But after a few weeks it started to act strangely.

If I start a download I get a nice speed of 200KB/s for about 10-15 seconds and then it slows right down to 20-30KB/s and stays there indefinitly. If I stop for a few hours and start it again I get the high speed for a few seconds then back down to really slow speeds.

If I use a paid NNTP server internationally I get a 400-500KB/s (I am on 4mb plan) likewise http downloads give me full speed too so I am sure there is no problem on my side. I even tried different PC's and different NNTP clients.

I contacted MWEB guy about it but he cant seem to find anything wrong. I was hoping to see if anyone else has similar problems with news.mweb.co.za

So as I found out, until that specialist contacts me, nothing will be done to assist me. That, I'm sorry to say is pathetic service. That I phone tech support and they will not do anything because of my 3pm 'appointment' is beyond me. By all accounts it looks like my account is being limited to a 1mb package and I have to wait until 3 for someone to even confirm or deny that. Like yesterday when I sat at home waiting for the 4:30pm call that never came because even though my number is on file, my mom's number was phoned instead.

Ridiculous.

When the specialist contacts you, then will be going into depth with regards to everything, account, line, etc.

Bear in mind, your mother is the account holder and her information is on the account, that is why she was contacted. We have your contact details and will be in contact with you.

Hey guys, just thought I would say, last night at about 9 when everyone went down internationally, I know cause buddies playing LoL with me at that time went down, my connection stayed put and my ping hit 700 and then in a matter of 15 secs it dropped to 170 and is still very similar right now , it's the best I have every had! Usually get 220 on a good day :) so I'm smiling all the way :D

The guy I dealt with was very thorough and cool, I at least appreciate that. After an hour of testing, it's still stuffed, even his account details do the same thing so now it's the wait game because it's in the tech divisions hands and who knows how long that will take. Effectively stuck on a 1mb account while paying for a 4mb until it's sorted ....... Very very disappointed in Mweb that this has happened.

Mephisto_Helix, I have requested that you be contacted again for a further investigation. We would like to get this resolved, as soon as possible.

To everyone in the know, riddle me this. About a week or so I got an email from mweb stating that telkom will be upgrading the lines and I must let them know if I want to upgrade my account as well. I immediately said yes and waited till it happened.

Last night I saw that my router is now syncing at 2mbps (up from one), so it happened that telkom upgraded the line (exchange whatever). So this afternoon I contacted mweb to find out when will they upgrade my account (line and data is with them). Spoke to someone at the technical department, who confirmed that my line has been upgraded and she put me through to sales to get the account upgraded.

This is where the nightmare started. According to a certain Brenda, I have to send a mail to mweb (dont know if I am allowed to post email addresses), and request for them to upgrade the line from 1 meg to 2 meg (the same line which is already syncing at 2 meg). According to her, this is to tell telkom to upgrade my line.

I told her that well my line has been upgraded, but for some reason she is adamant that I first send it through the procedure to get telkom to do it, "which will take 7 to 10 days". So I fired off an email to the address which she specified, and guess what, it returns an error stating that the user is unknown.

So I phoned the sales desk yet again, and guess what....I again land up with Brenda, now she changed her story, and told me, they can only upgrade my account tomorrow, this is now my login account, why can this only be done during office hours?

So please someone that knows how this whole upgrade procedure works, please let me know, so I can let mweb know as well

Can't you upgrade your account to 2mbps from the "My Account" page? That's how I bumped up my 4mbps to 10mbps, without email or speaking to a single person.
