MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Mweb, I am confused !

I'm a little stupid as I only have two degrees, one of them in ICT and I work for a telco/ ISP. I like to think I am smart but after reading your policy I see that Uncapped in your definition means UNTIL MWEB decides your using to much! If I ever see that english teacher I hada gain, I'm gonna tell her she taught me the incorrect definitions to certain words.

Perhaps I should have studied law, but exactly how do you bypass your shaping if you won't define what actions constitute bypassing shaping?

Why can you not say what is too much downloading, that way I can ensure I don't make you fellows unhappy.

So I drive down the motorway, it says drive as fast as you like till a cop decides it is too fast. Which judge in any normal world will say to me in court that I exceeded an non defined speed limit?

Mweb, you really can't expect users not to want to use 'uncapped' and not tell them what the rules are so as to ensure they adhere to the rules surely?

I cannot join MWEB cause they won't even unofficially tell me the rules.

This is kaf·ka·esque, ah well let me pour another beer and watch 'Catch 22' and I am sure it will all makes sense after another beer or two.

If you can manage 600+ gb a month then you are certainly not an idiot** and should know about ssl and related. I don't get this, I myself do anything from 10gb to 350gb a month.

How?
By just using it as it is when I need to without need to have something compensate for something else.

How?
Download as it is without using protocols that are not "normal".

Not normal?
Encryption eg. SSL, HTTPS or SSTP.

Normal?
Not encrypted eg. HTTP, FTP***, P2P***.

When?
When I need it****.

*To painful to read, didn't read.
**skipping the 56k era might to do this I suppose.
***obviously as it is without encryption.
****anything but his is retarded eg. rolling windows.

Dunno what you guys are doing wrong but my account is just
missing out on 56K ?

At this point I will follow the advise by Mark Twain.

“Never argue with a fool. Onlookers may not be able to tell the difference” –Mark Twain

LOL... Muggless_puppet... I guess everyone's entitled to their opinion....

Love that quote though ;)

ouch it is "https://mail.google.com" .................... wonder what https is ! By that definition you cannot use gmail !

You must be ignorant if you think HTTPS is not normal ! SSL is used by most websites if you buy something, you would be stupid to buy something without it.

Prophet, sorry you can't be bothered to read what another posts, but only fools answer posts they don't read!

I don't download anywhere near 100gb a month myself as a customer using a consumer internet connection, as I have access to huge pipes elsewhere.

Prophet are you posting on behalf on MWEB , if so could you please state so, and then answer how much is too much ? It is a very simple question. "*To painful to read, didn't read" - bit arrogant I would say old boy.

Darn I must be a fool , I'm not listening to Mark Twain !

Oh lord. You do not know what is the difference between browsing and downloading?

@Pr⊕phet (my quote button doesn't work)
Yup, speeds are normal for me. Only time this month it wasn't, was when Seacom was out :p

Oh dear that means we would have to draw lots for doing tomorrows mweb support :erm:

"Prophet, sorry you can't be bothered to read what another posts, but only fools answer posts they don't read!"

You are a fool then?

Please tell me, if you look at my mweb email, has any of those mails been read?

Did i not use my hotmail acc when i registered? Why didn't they notify me on that?

So it bates the question, did you really notify me?

The 4pm cancellation is highly unethical as you know your abuse department is closed then.

Fromm what your calldesk manager told me, that cancelation was loaded earlier in the week to run at 4pm.

You saying that Friday is a working day, so i would have assumed you would have done a refund for my payment of service?

Oooops, don't see it in my account.

Or is it your intent to charge me for a service you are not going to deliver, i think that classifies as theft, could be wrong?

If someone is paying for a 4mb uncapped line, what is 4mb running all day equal?
4mb*31 days = roughly 1.2Tb, not 600gb....correct me if i am wrong?

I was only using the account setting that were provided by the news service.

What I also told you is that you managed to average 35gig during the week and that we can see the type of traffic you were moving. Technically you were maxing out your line with a shaped account.

There is only one way to max out your line in the way that you have and that is by bypassing our shaper. This in itself is grounds to be kicked off our network.

Mweb guy, i highly disagree with this! I do not bypass the shaping on my account, i run torrents vanilla, no encryption, no vpn, nothing, and yet i have managed to do 35 gigs in a day before. When mweb does not shape my account, why is it my fault?

Also, Mweb Guy, still waiting on a point for point responses as requested

Also, please clarify this for me, i do not use my mweb email address, and in my mweb MY Account, under email it says
Your are currently not registered to use our Message Centre service. Click here to register.

Once you have completed your registration you may click refresh to reload this page
Does this mean any abuse letters will be sent to the email address my invoices are sent to or are they sent to an account that is not set up?

Ultimately it is up to the client to manage their accounts and you have not managed your account in a manner that we deem to be acceptable. If you would like to return to the MWEB network, we do offer unshaped accounts.

We will also process all credits and refunds that are due to you.

Lazy.Me I have answered these questions a bit earlier:

We do not provide specific amounts of data that is acceptable to move on our uncapped shaped accounts.

You will also notice that we have different types of uncapped offerings, shaped and unshaped accounts. If you use a shaped account and bypass our shaping, you are in contravention of our AUP.

Friday is a working day and we do the warnings weekly. Looking at your usage patterns, it would not have mattered when we cut your account. We also did provide you 3 warnings before we did so.

The question pertaining the mailing address, we should be sending the Abuse warning email to the billing address as well.

The question pertaining your Torrents you are downloading "torrents vanilla", did you obtain warnings when you downloaded from this site 24/7? Also noted that it is the responsibility of the client to manage his account.

so which accounts are unshaped?

When you say unshaped is it really unshaped or do you have hidden vague clauses on them too?

The unshaped accounts, really are unshaped... no hidden clauses...

So much anger directed at Mweb when the guys with all the anger didn't bother to read before signing up ......

As Prophet put it, very well nogal, just go about your business without bypassing anything and you'll be fine. How hard is that to understand? I exclusively use Mweb's news server for my downloads and there has never been a problem. As for the warnings (for bypassing!) going to your Mweb email, uhm, durr of course it will go there

Keep doing what you're doing Mweb ...... ;)

Thanks Mephisto_Helix, we'll do just that :D

You are talking about two totally different things.

Browsing the internet, whether encrypted or unencrypted, generates a reasonable amount of traffic. This is allowed, as encrypted web traffic (https) is still web traffic - whether you use this for banking/Email/online shopping. It will not generate excessive traffic, so this would not be flagged.

The problem comes in when using these "unmanaged" protocols in a way they were not intended or to obtain higher P2P speeds, for example.

Plainly put, anything which you do to AVOID traffic shaping would be considered a breach of AUP's as essentially you would be (or at least would be attempting to) 'tricking' the systems that are in place, to deliver unshaped traffic on protocols which are in fact supposed to be shaped.

Read this article from the Vuze Wiki, it is specific to torrents. But since you like to think you are smart, it should clarify exactly what encrypting your traffic does - even the title is "Avoid Traffic Shaping": http://wiki.vuze.com/w/Avoid_traffic_shaping

Now do not get me wrong, I am not saying that you did or didn't abuse the connection, I do not know what you had downloaded. For all I know you actually did "legal" traffic over encrypted protocols. If this is the case, however, then prove that info to the guys at MWeb. I honestly doubt that you would have been flagged in the first place if you were not clocking some extreme volumes of data through via unusual methods.

so saying " All our product are subject to the AUP" means you can just cancel those accounts too?

or are you saying an unshaped account can run at full 4mb for 24/7/366?

That's right, we are not shaping your connection and there will be no restrictions placed on your account if you go unshaped.
