MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

So much anger directed at Mweb when the guys with all the anger didn't bother to read before signing up ......

As Prophet put it, very well nogal, just go about your business without bypassing anything and you'll be fine. How hard is that to understand? I exclusively use Mweb's news server for my downloads and there has never been a problem. As for the warnings (for bypassing!) going to your Mweb email, uhm, durr of course it will go there

Keep doing what you're doing Mweb ...... ;)

I read on FB about some guy in Germany that was trialing 100Mbps and telling Mweb to suck it.

I pointed out there what I am going to point out here. We are extremely lucky to have the level of service we do given:

a) The size of our country
b) The extremely limited ADSL user base
c) The amount of cable theft

I think Telecoms and ADSL provders are doing well in the face of insurmounatble odds. I know I get angry when my ADSL doesn't work, but that's a natural reaction - even if unreasonable.

They stole our phone lines for the 3rd time within a year - we live in a rural area, and Telkom decided not to replace the lines the last time because we only have 10 users on the line. They did, however, give us permission to put up a wireless link to the exchange, which we did, and I now get 20ms pings to JHB from Magoebaskloof and full speed DL's on a 4Mbps link. I am using two Mikrotik RB711's and I couldn't be happier.

Instead of moaning, find a solution that works for you - we have an MTN uncapped solution as a backup. When the Internet goes down, just be thankful it's coming up again.

i have just gone to look at my mail, there is no mails in the inbox, so where are they?

I will liaise with our abuse team on Tuesday and provide you feedback then...

Also note that you will not be able to access your MWEB email as your account has been cancelled.

Ultimately it is up to the client to manage their accounts and you have not managed your account in a manner that we deem to be acceptable. If you would like to return to the MWEB network, we do offer unshaped accounts.

We will also process all credits and refunds that are due to you.

Lazy.Me I have answered these questions a bit earlier:

We do not provide specific amounts of data that is acceptable to move on our uncapped shaped accounts.

You will also notice that we have different types of uncapped offerings, shaped and unshaped accounts. If you use a shaped account and bypass our shaping, you are in contravention of our AUP.

Friday is a working day and we do the warnings weekly. Looking at your usage patterns, it would not have mattered when we cut your account. We also did provide you 3 warnings before we did so.

The question pertaining the mailing address, we should be sending the Abuse warning email to the billing address as well.

The question pertaining your Torrents you are downloading "torrents vanilla", did you obtain warnings when you downloaded from this site 24/7? Also noted that it is the responsibility of the client to manage his account.

My question relates to your statement earlier:
What I also told you is that you managed to average 35gig during the week and that we can see the type of traffic you were moving. Technically you were maxing out your line with a shaped account.

There is only one way to max out your line in the way that you have and that is by bypassing our shaper. This in itself is grounds to be kicked off our network.

That is saying the reason the warning/termination was issued was due to bypassing shaping, however is shaping was not bypassed this respons is invalid, but now you are asking about the time period of my downloads, surely these are two different things?

How would you like me to manage my account? you tell me my account is shaped, and the mweb network admins will control the shaping, so i must not bypass this shaping. This means that since they know best, they will give priority to certain traffic, and shape traffic that is placing strain on the network. I do not have the information available to me to know whether the Mweb network is under strain due to the refusal of mweb to make this information know to me. So how do you suggest i manage my account? should i put a blind fold on and guess what the load is? Does this mean mweb cannot effectively implement shaping on their network?

It also seems that there are many other "factors" mweb chooses to use when determining abuse, however these "factors" are not mentioned by you when we try and clarify certain points. You have still not answered the questions that were asked earlier.

Also, please respond to the question regarding the email address used to send abuse emails

Torrents Vanilla, are these legal downloads. When I google it, I am referred to many porn websites. Can you she some light on this for me please.

As I advised previously, you can provide us a forward address for abuse notifications. We do email all email address on the client profile, especially the billing address.

Vanilla refers to unmodified, meaning i have not used encryption or any methods to bypass your shaping

Still waiting on replies to the other questions

ok, so you are saying mails were sent, but there is no way for me to verify that, and that you will process a refund when it suits you....... doesn't seem like a good way to run a business that relies on clients.

sounds more like you should be doing sheep farming, easier to pull the wool over their eyes.

Please also provide a usage graph as i think my account was changed mid last month from a 1mb to 4mb and i can't understand how i could have been sent 3 warning letters.

Lazy.Me what other question would you like answered?

Again andycap, unltimately you need to manage your account. You will not be allowed back on our network, unless of course you decide to go on an unshaped product.

Asking how must i manage my account...

and

Also, please clarify this for me, i do not use my mweb email address, and in my mweb MY Account, under email it says

Does this mean any abuse letters will be sent to the email address my invoices are sent to or are they sent to an account that is not set up?

I have this urge to grab some popcorn and a beer and just keep following today's posts... Is that bad? :erm:

@Lazy.Me - please refer to prophet's earlier post regarding managing your account.

As I advised previously, you can provide us a forward address for abuse notifications. We do email all email address on the client profile, especially the billing address.

So, just to clarify for later, and to make sure that i understand mwebs official position, you are adopting Prophets post as acceptable in terms of the Mweb AUP? And just so there is no confusion, this is the post you are referring to?

If you can manage 600+ gb a month then you are certainly not an idiot** and should know about ssl and related. I don't get this, I myself do anything from 10gb to 350gb a month.

How?
By just using it as it is when I need to without need to have something compensate for something else.

How?
Download as it is without using protocols that are not "normal".

Not normal?
Encryption eg. SSL, HTTPS or SSTP.

Normal?
Not encrypted eg. HTTP, FTP***, P2P***.

When?
When I need it****.

*To painful to read, didn't read.
**skipping the 56k era might to do this I suppose.
***obviously as it is without encryption.
****anything but his is retarded eg. rolling windows.

So, again, to rephrase to make sure i undersand, if i download 35 gigs a day, without using anything that is not normal (encryption, vpn) i will not be in violation of the Mweb AUP?

Mweb Guy is this what you mean?

Ah so Prophet is speaking on behalf of MWEB then :)

I'd have thought he would have failed his customer care course by the way he posts, but maybe it is Mweb's way.

The truth is quite simple, you can max out any internet line using 'normal' protocols to watch bbc and utube webcasts etc. etc. etc. and not use any of the 'naughty' technologies you claim your clients are using.

On the mweb site please just show what ports, protocols and the like are not available to Mweb subscribers, it isn't a difficult question to answer. While you at it also just say what the maximum downloading allowable is.

It really is a simple set of questions to answer!

so how do i know for a fact that you did indeed send 3 mails?

where are you going to send the usage graphs? to my hotmail account?

I referred you to the post by prophet, so you can gain understanding as to protocols that bypass our shaper.

As advised previously, we do not provide specific numbers to usage.

Previoulsy you were able to manage your account in a reasonable manner and your usage has since tripled. I will liaise with our abuse department with regards to your account on Tuesday.

so how do i know for a fact that you did indeed send 3 mails?

Again andycap, your account has been cancelled. You need to manage your account in a reasonable manner.

I will liaise with our abuse team with regards to the emails that were sent to you, however this will have no bearing on the cancellation of your account.

The usage on my account has increased due to the fact that i have upgraded my account from a 1 meg to a 4 meg, which you have failed to take into account. I will contact your abuse department in relation to the advice you have given here.

Thanks Mweb guy, i shall manage my account in exactly the way you stated was acceptable, as per Prophet's post, as you indicated this was how, according to mweb it should be done.

Just to clarify on why i have posted here today, i have not received an abuse email from mweb in the past month, i am however interested in finding out exactly how i can manage my account, as to not put strain on the mweb network and enjoy the internet experience offered by mweb within the limits set. This has been an incredibly difficult and time consuming process. But i am glad i have finally been able to obtain clarity from you.

Thanks Mweb Guy

I noticed there has been no abuse warning in the past month and my apologies for not taking into consideration the upgrade of your account.

Its simple though, don't bypass our shaper and you should be fine.

It has lots of bearing, you can't go around and randomly cancel accounts and then not provide a basis for this.

So far we have established that your cancelation on a friday afternoon is unethical.

At some point you are going to have to provide proof that the 3 mails weren't sent and that my usage was deserving of a cancelation.

And without graphs, how do you justify you statement of my usage.

At this point you guys are opening yourselves to a legal action.

You will probably at some point need to answer to the ASA for false advertising and have to drop the word "uncapped" from your offering.
