MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

Hi Mweb Guy

We have been struggling for the past 2 months with our Internet, and it's starting to get a bit ridiculous now. I know the fault probably lies with Telkom, but if you can assist us with sorting this matter out for once and for all we would greatly appreciate it.

Every time we use our Landline phone to recieve or make a call, our router disconnects. You can imagine how frustrating this can become. Two faults were reported to Telkom and both of them, according to Telkom, has been resolved. We have seen an improvement in our speed/streaming since yesterday, but the disconnecting issue still persists.

Good Day Shevath, Thanks for the feedback. We will re-escalate the fault to Telkom.

Good Morning Shuyin, torrents speeds are not guaranteed. I would suggest that you look at the limits you've set within your download manager.

Your usage for yesterday and this morning seems fine though...

I know torrent speed cant be guaranteed. Ive been using this community torrent site since i got my Mweb uncapped account and never had much of a problem i tested other torrents from other places its all the same.

My usual speed is 300-450kbs now its 0.5kbs-10kbs and sometimes spikes to 70kbs for 5 seconds. its been doing this for the last 3 weeks. Ive looked at all my settings all are set to unlimited.

I tried ftp aswell that is also realy slow.

The usage you see defiantly does not reflect p2p downloads thats probably steam updates and youtube witch are fine.

I hear what you saying but you need to remember that the speeds on torrents/p2p is not guaranteed.
It will always fluctuate as it is a shaped service.

Ok, so it can be shaped from 450kbs to 0.5kbs ? that's not shaping that's basicly turning it off. Who does the shaping ?

Our shaping on the network is dynamic and the parameters have been preset by engineers.
The speeds you getting is low I would agree but torrent/p2p speeds are not guaranteed.

I have your details, I'll check the account from my side and Pm you if I find anything.

Pathetic speeds once again, this is really getting irritating.

Speedtest results, testing to Cape Town MWeb server

Ping 396ms, download 0.26Mbps, upload 0.28Mbps. This is on a 4Mbps line. Telkom have tested the line, no fault, reset the router, no difference. Madness!!. Steam has difficulty even logging on, Windows Updates, basically stall.

International

Ping 773ms, download 0.36Mbps, upload 0.15Mbps.

Router was off for an hour, no improvement. Telkom say the line is fine. Takes 5 mins to open the speedtest web site.

Please could you PM me a trace route mweb.co.za and bbc.co.uk
Also include the results of a MWEB speed test.
Ensure that when running the test that no other devices are connected and no other traffic is active on the line.

Well, after a month of bliss on the Openweb Gold Uncapped trial I find myself back at MWEB's mercy. Performance is still junk in GW2, running around with a new alt in the very unpopulated newbie areas and lagging like crazy. Windows 8 Resource monitor tells me 368ms right now.

I have nothing else running. No NNTP, no torrents, hell, even no Internet radio streaming (which I am missing quite a bit now because I don't want to anger the "shapers" while just trying to get some decent online gaming happening). If there is anything about Windows 8 that could be causing lag i.e background services etc? I don't have any Modern UI style apps running.

In game experience ranges from playable to NPC's rubber banding, my character sometimes rubber banding, cast lag occasionally and just general overall lag. I would have expected after an entire month and a half of the same problem, MWEB would have fixed this by now. My experience with the Openweb trial account was nothing short of awesome and was a very good indication that there is nothing wrong with my line or exchange. What's going on MWEB? Your network was fairly good up until mid October and then it all went to ****. Oversold on accounts? Not enough bandwidth purchased? CEOs taking Christmas bonuses?

Good Morning StevenC,

I cannot pick up anything on your account and your line readings seem fine at the moment.

Your tracers also don't reflect any congestion.

I will escalate this to our gaming team to test GW 2, however I need to know if you which servers you are having trouble with. May we activate monitoring on your account, this will enable us to monitor your traffic from our side when you are gaming.

Good Morning PurSpyk!!

Your tracers timeout on the first hop and your speed test results are way below what they should be.

What are your results like during the day?

Please also provide me the Telkom guest account speed test results when you encounter this problem, I am logging a technical call back in the interim.

I did a test this morning before going to work, still issues on the tracert, speedtest still had a very high ping (this was to the cape town mweb server), download speeds were a bit better, but still way below the normal speed.

I can do a test tonight on the Telkom test account. If anyone is going to phone, please ask them to call me after 17h30 as no one will be home.

Hi Mweb Guy

My friend would like to know if you have any other details on this fault :

Hi Bar_Rat

I'm afraid thats the all the info I have at my disposal as well.
It seems though as it could be a DSLAM issue, just checked again on the internal systems.

Hi there MWEB Guy. I am keen to get this sorted as GW2 is what I consider my relaxation time and lag is not relaxing :P

You may activate monitoring on the account. The server I play on is Aurora Glade with the rest of South Africa. I typically game in the evening from about 7pm up to 10/12 pm. Very rarely during the day, perhaps once a week.

I will monitor the situation this evening. Thanks!
