MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 2

1) when did the problem start - been there forever, i always assumed it was your shaping. I spent a week at my brothers place and he has a 1 meg uncapped account and streaming worked beautifully all day long, which is when i realised i was getting it bad:(
2) nature of the problem (slow, just buffers, freezes, etc) - super slow and sometimes doesnt even bother buffering
3) youtube stream speed -cant even get 240 streaming at night on certain days
4) does it happen on another PC/device when tested. - yes same problem on work laptop at home
5) account type - 1 meg uncapped
6) Region - paulshof/sunnighill/fourways area
7) are you able to stream from another similar site and what is the experience like (dailymotion, metacafe, vimeo, veoh, etc) - havent tried those but BBC streams seem ok.

I use Skype on a regular basis and since this past weekend I have had problems with it randomly disconnecting or calls being dropped. Last night I couldn't even make calls. I changed to a spare account I have access to (an Axxess one) and Skype worked.


1) Does it happen all day and is it also a problem at night?
I don't use Skype for that many calls during weekdays but at night definitely.
2) What Operating system does the user have and what is the skype version. Please check help -> about.
Win 8 x64 Pro. Desktop Skype 6.1.0.129 and Skype for Windows 8.
3) Are there any other pc’s on the network with skype, and do they also give problems?
Yes, same thing happens on my laptop + desktop.
4) What is the exact problem:
4.1) Disconnects after a while
Yes, occasionally.
4.2) Skype doesn’t even log in
It times out (the icon goes grey and you need to restart Skype to get it to log back in)
4.3) Logs in and calls connect, just bad quality
Yes, sometimes this happens as well.
4.4) The video part is bad, or the voice part is bad, or both?
I don't use video, so can't comment.
5) Type of account (eg: 1mbps, 2mbps, 4mbps, etc)
2Mbit uncapped on a 10Mbit line.
6) Region

This is exactly what happens with me, same operating system. Can confirm that it happens during the day as well. In Centurion.

Question: Do you shape/throttle youtube? that would seem a bit harsh on the "premium" uncapped packages?

Hi poorestguy

Youtube is not shaped by us.

If one has a throttled account and throttling kicked in then speeds would be slowed down.
 
I'm really thinking it's Cinx/Jinx/Dinx related when it happens. If it was Mweb shaping or whatever, the whole network would feel it. Seeing that others in Durban are also having no issues makes it seem even more so.

The problem seems to be around all the time. The account is mostly used during the day.

Linux, verson 4.1.0.20. On the same LAN we also have Windows and Mac users. All of them are affected.

Yes (see above).

Not using video. The problem is either that voice calls won't connect, or they do connect but fail after a short period of time. Chat works most of them time although there have been a few issues with this too.

ok so i definitely issues as sometimes i cant even stream 240p videos on youtube. and i only try at night (which is supposed to be faster period?).

however i do notice that some youtube videos stream faster than others. i can stream some at 360p with no issues. so im not sure whats going on exactly.

EDIT: the majority videos never stream fast enough though...
 
Anyone else noticing severe streaming issues with YouTube? I start a video and then 3-5 seconds in it buffers for about 10-20 seconds before carrying on and then buffers again for another 3-5 seconds. This is @ 360p quality, at 720p the video takes 2 minutes to buffer 2 seconds worth of video.

I am one of said Windows users in the same office. In addition to the comments made by "Light", I notice that sometimes my Skype icon in the tray shows the "connecting" grey icon, even though my contacts tell me that I'm showing as online, and I am receiving messages. When we switch to another ISP, it connects.

I don't know if this is related, and I don't want to confuse matters, but also specific to MWEB only, my Google Drive tray app is unable to connect. Right now, it is showing as greyed out. If I switch to Web Africa (for example), it connects immediately.
 
MWEB... this Skype problem has been going on for about 2 weeks now. It's driving me insane when clients need to get hold of me from overseas. I'm honestly considering moving over to someone else after supporting you guys for years.

Hi, provide me with a speed test result and trace route results to a local and international site.

It's always been happening on random videos, but in the last two weeks it has steadily become worse.
2) nature of the problem (slow, just buffers, freezes, etc)
All of the above. It used to be 'some' videos that were slow, now most are slow or don't buffer at all.
3) youtube stream speed
Anywhere from 0 - 50KB/s
4) does it happen on another PC/device when tested.
Tested on smartphone, same problem.
5) account type
1Mb Uncapped Premium
6) Region
Cape Town
7) are you able to stream from another similar site and what is the experience like (dailymotion, metacafe, vimeo, veoh, etc)
Gametrailers.com works, but it never runs at full line speed, usually around 60-70Kb/s
