i totally understand this, however i'm still of opinion that the shaper can be adapted. apart from that, i guess then that this morning at 12:13am the pipe was full since my torrent test failed at 60-80kB/s ?

This I agree with as well. At 05:15 this morning my torrents were going at 60-80 as well. Something is wrong. Very wrong.

even gigans was kia at 50kB/s. i canned my trail with them and poor peder responding... i could only guess what his thoughts was on my cancellation note of being chocked at 50kB/s. another thing which will help a lot is giving us proper HD streams of series and movies via for example dstv on demand without it being a <insert insult> service as it is.

now if i had a 4mb line and was getting 50-80kbps on P2P on a shaped, uncapped account, i'd be quite happy. does one really need to download these things at full line speed? I mean, whatever it is will get done eventually....
 
Doesn't really make a difference if you bypass shaping anymore, as I mentioned in the other thread, according to posts on hellopeter, MWEB are now banning on usage alone, bypassing shapping or not.

You're paying for a 4mbit product, not 512K. So yes it does matter. Seriously how can you have that mentality?

mweb are definitely banning on usage, i know a guy who had his service cut a few days ago, he didnt bypass the shaping in any way, only used rapidshare (free user) and torrents, the guy he spoke to at mweb said his account was flagged for heavy downloading! nothing else

A quick question. If I set up my computer to download at night while I am asleep, is that a contravention of FUP?

I do not know about the rest of the Mweb community but I had better peer 2 peer downloads when Seacom was down than when Mweb switched back.
I am talking torrents here and i know they are shaped and i really have no issue with that. Just wondering why since Mweb restored their full service again things got slower not faster.
is their full service (seacom) actually slower than saix then?

Well I was downloading at max line speed last night and all within the AUP conditions (although I may have gone for a pee at some point - should I have paused the download?).

Mweb is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get.
 
im looking to do about 600-700gb per month, mostly linux distros, would this violate the aup?

I don't think it really matters whether what you do is against the AUP. The AUP outlaws almost all activity to some extent, and even if it doesn't there are some catch all clauses that could include everyone on their network.

All that really matters is whether MWeb, based on your usage, want you as a client.

Looks like this might be true to an extent, obviously bypassing shaping will get you disconnected whereas "legal" usage below say 200-300Gb almost definitely won't. They're also keeping many clients who are unprofitable to them. 400GB+ might be a problem, but far more people have reported doing this than those who've reported being disconnected for it.

Still looks like a very reasonable system to me, and for the price it's amazing in any case. I doubt you'd see many other companies offering services below cost to so many of their clients. Would be interesting to see whether their uncapped network is even profitable yet.

Well seriously, how are you planning to do 600-700GB a month? If it'll involve bypassing shaping for P2P then don't bother. Also possible that if you simply queue downloads all month to get this total and continue every month they wouldn't want you using the R530 product.

Or are you just giving some hypothetical scenario? Because then who really cares, no one is downloading 700GB a month of linux distros.
