Hey everyone,
Okay so I had Afrihost Uncapped, which was a major fail! Anyways so I went and got Mweb Uncapped this afternoon but I am experiencing some problems.

I have a 512 line so I obviously took the 512 Uncapped option for the best speed possible. Now here is where the problem comes in running speedtest I get 0.42mb/s which seems normal but as soon as I start downloading something it downloads at 10kbps which is not right cause usually it downloads between 40kbps and 50kbps.

Now I only get this speed when I am on the Mweb account when on the Telkom one it is fine.

Here is the speed test:

Get used to it dude...

I left Afrihost a month ago for Mweb and its terrible. I have 384 connection and getting 3kb/s download speed as we speak...and have been for over a month. Ive tried calling them but cant get through and getting reallly fed up with it. Im paying R200 for dial-up basically and have no idea what else to do now...

its probeley congestion at the Exchange.Try using Http downloads instead of p2p applications.

as stated yeah, congestion at the exchange.

my p2p is hell slow also, but my rapidshare ,multiupload http downloads go full speed.

Mweb uncapped is shaped, so really don't expect to get decent speeds with P2P protocols, because they are shaped to the ground.
I use Mweb news servers on my 384kbps account and I usually get 40kB/s, although 2-3 days ago I didn't get more than 15kB/s but that only lasted for a few hours.

Well I tried Hotfile etc and it is also slow like 10kbps...
I also got a hotfile account on a 4meg line. It is not actually mweb shaping there but Hotfile. Most people are complaining about the slow speeds during the day. Usually have them fast during the early mornings and weekends.
I know it is not shaping because during the times when hotfile is slow, I also download using rapidshare and they are really quick. But a little too expensive to get their rapidpro account.

Most ISPs shape P2P. Thats why I rather use a subscription based server to download stuff. They cost about R30/month.

If Mweb could only tell us Wtf is going on.All this started hapepning as soon as they started routing local traffic internationaly.

My latency is really bad with Web Africa based servers. Using Speedtest to ping the CT server gives over 400ms. Quicker to go to Europe instead.

How do you get started though? Ive been hearing people talk about news servers and allsorts but how / where do I get onto them? Is it something I install? Is there a site I have to join? How does it work?

Any help much appreciated
