Hi,

I'd just like to verify that others have this problem? I'm developing a web app on my home pc and need to service requests coming in from the internet. I setup a dyndns account and registered a hostname, setup the dynamic dns client to autoupdate from my router and enabled port forwarding for the port at which my webserver was listening (not 80). Low and behold requests from the internet time out. I switch to a different ISP account (change no other settings) and requests are serviced. So i call mweb today and get told it's in the T&C's that this isn't allowed.

That's interesting except for the 3rd last post on this link (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/275838-**MWeb-amp-Port-110**).

So, anyone else have this issue?

Just to check, you've disabled their port blocking feature (Protected Access) on the website? If you log in on the MWeb site under My Account the option is right there.

I see the thread you link is full of that so I suppose you already have. PM the MWeb rep in that case, he'll most likely be more clued in than whoever you spoke to.

port at which my webserver was listening (not 80).
Presumably they don't want people using their consumer ADSL to host pages & filter it.

Try something other than HTTP requests...I'm guessing it'll go through. Like hosting a game etc.

The Terms and Conditions indicate that servers may only be hosted on business accounts, so possibly the port is blocked even though "Protected Access" has been disabled? Which port are you using?

I don't host on my link, but decided to do a quick test to test this anyway. I can connect to my network over HTTP and HTTPS - so no blocking happens on a protocol level. You'll have to say which port it is for anyone else to comment.

MWeb Blocks Port 80

its quite frustrating to now discover that external access is not allowed (according to what I've read here, "it's in the fineprint"). Their disable external access says they are doing it block access to routers, but you can switch it off if you want, which doesn't seem to be the case. I'm trying to host a web server on port 80 (for testing) only to discover that they don't allow it.

Bit disappointed here - the uncapped account is not that bad and it's great for DSTV on Demand - but now I can't do this.... sheesh :wtf:

Log in to your MWEB account and disable "Protected Access".

Hi Zabzoo,

Please advise if you are still experiencing issues with DSTV on Demand?

Kind regards,

Don't think you read correctly - he likes DSTVOD, but the issue he has now with ports being blocked is 'irritating' him.

If you want to host a webserver don't use a home account.

Hi Zabzoo,

When you mention "but now I can't do this.... sheesh" is it referring to your DSTV on Demand was working fine but now you can't or is "but now I can't do this.... sheesh" referring to the below:

"its quite frustrating to now discover that external access is not allowed (according to what I've read here, "it's in the fineprint"). Their disable external access says they are doing it block access to routers, but you can switch it off if you want, which doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe I misunderstood what you trying to say, as Anthro pointed out.

Your clarity would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy
