Just would like to know from people with Mweb uncapped unshaped if its any good for wow + if the 384 kb/s will dc you alot in fights like chimaeron bwd or should i go with the 512 kb/s?

629 R for 384 kb/s uncapped unshaped
999 R for 584 kb/s uncapped unshapped

which is alot less than what im currently paying telkom for capped internet.

Your unshaped, uncapped 584 is STILL not going to match 4Mbps uncapped and *SHAPED.

It's better to get 4Mbps, you guys with 384/584 paying hella prices really have no idea what you are missing out with 4Mbps, someone lied to you guys about something.

Indeed. 512 is too slow for WoW anyways. You'll have problems in raids or where large groups gather, like Battle Grounds.

Um, obviously have some connection issues there. I have a 384 line and I play wow using an Mweb capped account which gives me sub 200ms while questing/doing random stuff in town and about 250ms in a 10man raid (Did a 25man yesterday and it never went over 300ms). I'm also a healer so latency matters to me.

512 is an absolute waste for the price you pay so it's either 384 or 4096 and if you are heavy into your mmo's then get 384 and subscribe to a ping reduction server (R40-50 p/m) and you will have a great gaming experience.

Not just me saying this. Blizzard regards Broadband as 4096kbps down and 1024kbps up and this is also their minimum requirement.

I used to have 384kbps, but even in WotLK in 25man raids it was impossible for me to even DPS nevermind heal/tank. The lag is just insane. Upgraded to 4096kbps and voila, fixed.

Cataclysm raids should be an even bigger problem on some boss fights (can't think of any as I've only done Magmaw).

Strange, I've only ever had 1 bandwidth issue on my 384 line and that was with Cata pre-release where there were 100+ players all fighting one group of elementals so I can understand why blizz would recommend 4096+.

25man content isn't an issue for me but I haven't done the Cata 25man content yet (not that I need/want to since gear drops are the same as 10man). Currently I can do 10man with Vent/TS on and still get sub 300ms on my Mweb account which, as a healer, makes it pretty doable. I will be upgrading to 4Mb soonish but no real rush as I'm pretty happy with my line as is.

You should try 25mans in Cata, its a different story and you can't compare your Wrath experience to it. I personally can see my 4mbit is rock solid stable on 25mans, however next issue for me is getting a GFX card, which is currently the weakest point in my chain of devices playing the game.

currently with my 4 gb unshaped telkom acc i get to about 300 ms , but it increases once i do 25 man fights like chimaeron, or theralion and valiona goes up to about 1k ms...

so you guys say 4 mbps shaped is fine for wow? at mweb they reccomended unshaped for mmo's but i guess they just want to make money off of us
im a healer and we just have nefarian left untill we can start HM's and im one of the main healers so latency needs to be perfect for 25 mans . well nt perfect but stable enough to not have delays in casting and not DC'ing every 2 secs when alot of aoe healing is required.

The one reason I never played tank / healer is due to latency. I couldn't bear to think what would happen if was a MT or MH lol.

DPS is easily replacable.

To note: 384k uncapped shaped serves me alright, but on Cho'Gall last week i was having disconnects when the second phase starts and adds spawn. Between 512k and 4mb, go 4mb. Difference in price is so small and disconnects happen because of too much incoming data.

I had problems on my line back in WotLK where I was downgraded to 512kbps due to line stability and I couldn't raid 25mans. They since then fixed my line and got me back to 4mbps and raids were fine again.

I've not raided much in Cata and I'm currently lineless :p iBurst ftl btw.

Waiting for ADSL installtion at new place :(

I've been playing WoW EU for just over a year on MWEB uncapped 4Mbps with no issues.

Yes, they do have "some" days the latency go of the chart, but they also have active players working for them.

MWEB has a very good gaming strategy and I know they work hard to keep the gamers happy.

You should see the "gaming" office right next the main boardroom in the CPT office!

I know changing your ADSL MTU helps with latency issues on WoW, so pop Mweb a mail if you have problems.

PS: I DO NOT WORK FOR MWEB! I DO NOT HAVE ANY FRIENDS OR FAMILY WORKING FOR MWEB! I JUST LIKE WHAT THEY ARE DOING FOR BROADBAND IN SA!

Simply put, if you want to raid without losing your sanity, 4mb is the way to go. Even if raiding is not your forte, the BG'S out there are even worse for 512 and under. Rather play solitaire.

I beg to differ. this statement applies only to raiding 25mans. in my 10man group as kittay, the only druid, I am top of the damage and dps charts, and I throw out the odd BR when needed. I am using a 384k line with leatrix to good effect, no proxy whatsoever. raiding as melee at 400-500ms is easy if you know what you doing (I watch some of the others make the same stupid mistakes over and over again) and I know Im not making mistakes as our RL has an addon that points out mistakes that people make (ie hitting shields on Omnotron System etc)

only time it sorta comes into play is doing chains on magmaw, because the other chainer is running sub 200 ms and can quite simply get on the head and chain the spike quicker. which we sorted by asking him to wait 1 second. no problems

remember, not everyone can afford 4meg lines :(

How much does you internet setup come to every month? Im looking for the cheapest way to get into WoW... :P

I have not read ANYTHING besides the opening post - do not pick at what i say.

Unshapped uncapped lines will NEVER be as good as you will be led to think. you will get get throttled no matter what after you download a certain amount. i have tried. start of the month , its amazing. 1 week in after downloading series that i watch ( 1 a day at most ) , your latency goes from 200 to around 300 and increases per week.
