Yes, they are shaping P2P.

I am on a 4mb line, uncapped Mweb , Utorrent (data management off).

Crap is all i can say. 60kb download, and it doesnt seem like i ever get over 100kb/s. Yes i have tried torrents with over 100 seeders, same issue.

On Axxess this used to hit 400kb/s...so yes the shaping is intense on p2p through utorrent.

Gaming (HoN) my best ping on a EU game is 264ms, normally around 280 - 300ms (which blows).

Youtube - after 10pm, 4mb line remember, it still stutters and buffers.

Telkom checked my line yesterday (engineer came out) - said line was fine, and attenuation was good.

So where is the problem, well...its MWEB. It's shaped, and its slow - for me specifically.

Would appreciate a astraweb tutorial, or some tips on how to squeeze out the real bandwidth I have on the line...

During the day torrent speeds are crap (I'm currently getting 41kB/s down on 4mb), but at night it flies, so I'm not upset :)
Http is still nice and fast during the day, so I tend to do some http downloads while I browse.

With a 4mb line, say you don't download from 8am-6pm, then go bossies with Rapidshare, torrents etc.
How much a month are mweb saying you can download before getting "capped" per say?

Agreed. However what i download wont depend on seeds - some rare stuff takes ages...on a news server its sitting there, so the speed you get would theoretically be "the best speed for the time of day" and not dependant on who is online for the torrent.

Yes p2p is shaped during the day. 60kbs and as the afternoon goes on it becomes 200kbs and till you reach full speed. But by the looks of it its MUCH faster than Afrihost throttled uncapped if you reach 60GB or whatever. So its still really good. oled
So me one uncapped option that gives you these speeds on p2p during the day? Not even the IS uncapped express account cause it shaped to 128k

With you 100%. My issue is that even at midnight, I am sitting on 100kb/s MAX - hence why i want to try newsgroups, to get better speeds after hours, as utorrent is not doing me any favours.

i'm guessing news server traffic would get badly shaped aswell

Confirming that news traffic is shaped. Astraweb, on any of their available ports, even SSL, is heavily shaped during the day.
What time of day do you guys usually notice news traffic speeds increasing?

Around 8pm. With rapidshare, I can get up to 300kb/s in the day. Not bad, but there was a day when I was shaped to 20kb/s!! Generally though, its about 200kb/s. Which is not bad, imo.

HTTP downloads are running great. I'm considering signing up with Rapidshare tomorrow (the 1st). It just sucks that we have to shell out even more to get speeds that, just a few weeks ago, used to be the norm :(

Rapidshare is also shaped during the day, even though it's http - well mine is at least.

During the day, 50KBs at night 350KBs on 4mb uncapped with mweb. Using torrents from thepiratebay.org

W1z4rd - what torrent software are you running - and whats the average amount of seeds on the "items" you are downloading?

i use utorrent and i find that btjunkie is the best for me, torrent wise.

i average 400+ on my capped afrihost account on it and topped at 60kb/s on my free 512 account.

i even reached 438 kb/s dl torrents on 4mb mweb account before it was downgraded

sitting with the same issue. Just changed from capped telkomsa to uncapped mweb (4mb line) and have seen a drastic reduction in download speed p2p. Must say that while I understand the limitations of uncapped internet, I am sceptic as to whether or not I will actually get more data downloaded at these slow speeds.
Been downloading a torrent with BitTorrent from tpb.org and had reached a max rate of 64kb/s until 5:30 pm when it shot up to 150kb/s.
Bit of a bitter taste in the mouth after my initial excitement about the uncapped line.

has anyone else realised that Telkom seems to be preventing users from cancelling caps until the beginning of next month? I have called throughout the day and have been told "our systems are down, call back later". Wouldn't be surprised if their systems miraculously start working on the first of april, after we all have to fork out cash for our caps for the month.
