Any of the other MWeb WiMax trial users (specifically Randburg) still sitting on 384kbps???

What happened to the 512kbps I was getting in the start?

Don't get me wrong - I'm grateful for the free service - but if ur gonna test something DO IT PROPERLY........

:p

Nope, I'm also on 384kbps now, I too was at 512kbps in the beginning. By putting us on such slows speeds, they can't really test the maximum speed that their network can achieve.

I'm on 384. I was on 512 in the beginning.

For about three months it was absolute shiiiiite tho' even if it was nominally 512. Huge packet loss, dropped connection, no throughput although my hop to the tower was fine.

In December it started working much better, I've been averaging about 2-3GB per day since 20th December.

I mostly download off the SAIX news server, don't want to abuse it too much.

Send me a pm with your username u using on wimax.

I can maybe arrange for the 512k connection.

You should phone them and ask.
As far as I know they can change your speeds on the fly from their side or at least give and explanation about the decrease in speed. Usually they are pretty good with information and contact clients by email when they change anything. You sure you did not get a email to this effect?

A friend of mine has downloaded and uploaded tons of data with his Wimax Trial from MWeb and has a standalone PC dedicated just for that task. :)

I am in Cape Town, I was on 386, now on 512, so maybe they giving us a turn with the 512.

I don’t know what you guys are DL , I tried downloading one episode of Boston Legal, took a week at 2 kbps, they shape P2P.

The M-web guys where at my house, they told me that they shaping it.

So let me know what severs you use, thanks

BTW, can anyone get on gmail today?

I've stayed away for the p2p torrent downloading - always seemed a bit of a waste to me

I'm downloading from a news server - it is a paid service (about R 180 per month unlimited download). I figure since I'm not paying ISP\line costs I might as well get a good source. It runs at an average 355 Kbps.

I've made my peace with the line speed - honest truth is that since I have caught up on all my tv series I've kinda run out of stuff to queue.

MWeb kindly upped my speed to 1Mbps over the weekend :D

I have no issues with shaping, so I'm sure that p2p issues that are experienced may be seeding related. My torrents were running at 85kBytes/s (down) and 65kBytes/s (up) yesterday.

Ok, so what sever do you use,and how do i get onto these news severs??

I dont mind paying.

thanks

I use Giganews - familiarity I suppose........
There are a few places that offer the newsgroup service...... as mentioned by Swift-wp we have got some local servers like SAIX that mirror the Giganews servers as well as IS

This is all on trial Eugene66, hence the no limits and no caps. The production service will be per Gigabyte, as always.
