MWEB WiMax trial to continue

Sentech has AFAIK done absolutely nothing with that WiMax spectrum, i.e. wasted.

That is part of the problem. They have a network but have so far not even hinted at any plans to use it to provide WiMax. The spectrum should be given to someone else that actually intends on using it.

The part I don't understand is that Telkom has been offering a commercial service while MWeb is still just trialling it. They should be making moves to launch commercially.

Telkodemonopolies refuses to provide WiMax in areas where ADSL is available - even if it's an area where only a maximum of 384kbits/s [downlink speed] ADSL is available, while Telkodemonopolies' WiMax is up to 512kbits/s [downlink speed] - certainly better than exorbitantly priced 384kbits/s ADSL with the compulsory double line rental charges - at least Telkodemonopolies' WiMax would be slightly faster for about the same double ADSL line rental fee price. Also, Telkodemonopolies has for years, been trialling the non-mobile version of WiMax which WiMax vendors have been touting for years.

I don't think there is any official policy not to provide it to adsl users. Rather a lack of education with nobody knowing what it is or how to order it so they either give the usual run around or simply tell you to get adsl. Some people were just persistent they have the right department and managed to get it in the process.

NeeTel as we all know has not even launched any commercially available services for ordinary consumers to use, so the WiMax spectrum ministerially assigned to NeeTel has been going to waste.

Time would have to tell if the preparations were worth the trouble. As usual the governmental delays are to blame or they would already have launched it in December.

They do, but I don't. I'm quite happy with my free 1Mbps uncapped trial connection.

And while you have it for free the rest of us can't have it even if we wanted to pay? Doesn't sound fair to me.

It is an official Telkodemonopolies policy not to offer WiMax in areas where ADSL is available, that is the problem, not the usual incompetence of Telkodemonopolies' call centre staff - which is an entirely different and very real problem.

Despite this some have managed to get it in an adsl area by simply asking for it and not making reference to adsl. There really does not appear to be an official policy regarding it but if you are already renting a line from them they won't give it to you as it's simply too much work for them.

If it wasn't for the installation and the isp charge I would order it.

By official Telkodemonopolies policy, I mean that this policy has been publicly stated and quoted in news articles.

1mbps????? Damn you lucky, I'm on a 384kbps connection with the trial!
