Hi!
Can anybody tell me more about MWEB? Are they resellers of SAIX or IS? If not, how do they link up with the Internet? Are they connected internationally via satelite or undersea cable?
Thanks!

They are SAIX I believe. I currently use this service though, and would not recommend it. Its a wee bit faster than Telkom, but not very much so. The only nice thing about Mweb is the addons you get with them.

Would you rate their service as reliable?

STAY THE **** AWAY FROM MWEB

NO MORE THAN ANY OTHER COMPANY THATS HALF THE PRICE

So you would say that about R539 (MWEB) versus R478.8 (SAOL) for 6GB?

Hey, I received your PM, but I would say this thread should answer all your questions.

They are SAIX resellers mostly, but I would recommend that you do no purchase access from them due to their prices which is simply a rip-off.

MrG

saol because mweb suck

i dont see a 6 gig on their site but look at it this way

mweb 539 for 6 gigs

saol

10 GIG FOR 499.00

are you seeing the huge price difference

Sorry to hijack the thread a little.

Who else sells saix uncapped besides Mweb? Everywhere i phoned it is only IS uncapped?

I agree, like everyone else, stay away from them, they just rip you off

Why does MWEB actually suck?

Not liking a service provider yourself doesn't mean others have to view it the same way. We barely use up 5 GB a month, what to do with 10? Thats like driving a 2l car when you're only ever going to the Spar around the corner!

Mac, I use MWEB, but they are expensive. I have no problem with their service. As dakeyras said, you are ultimately also paying for the extra bit and pieces, that would be your call as to whether you see value in that to justify the extra cost.

Read the posts above or search the forum,

See the price differences, they charge double
They offer Value added services that you can get for free, for example: access to Encarta Encyclopedia as a value added service, you can use Wikipedia for free.

Well if you don't need 10gigs, no one is forcing you to get that account, there are smaller accounts available, SAOL has 5gb for R299.

Thanks, you've helped me to make up my mind!

I would think that MWEB sucks because of the price, and I'm guessing most people have that same view. Maybe doesn't describe their service or anything about the company, but does affect what you are paying for.

Personally I'm going to go for Webafrica or Openweb because of their better prices (Webafrica = R290 for 5Gb), though I'll get their 1gb option because that's what I'll use. Also they have an excellent reputation on these forums and are quick to respond to any queries. Mweb has the image at least in my mind, of being a large faceless corporation. Who would you want to deal with?

Though Mweb does have some nice specials with the vouchers and the modems, but then you probably stuck in with a contract, which again a lot of people don't like because of the constant hope, ADSL prices will come down for more speed.

ok so your telling me you would rather pay mweb 540 rand for 6 gig than pay 500 for 10 gigs because your only going to use 5 gig

so then why not get 5 gig for 299 from saol

if you cannot understand the simple principal of paying to much for something then go with mweb

actually mweb is like buying bread from one spar at 4.99 and then buying bread from another spar for 9.99

they both selling the same thing expect the one spar is more expensive (but you'll buy the 9.99 one because you dont see the difference, you will only eat half a loaf)

but you sound like you want to use mweb and get ripped off, by all means go ahead

but understanding why we dont like mweb is not rocket science

Many of my customers are with MWeb, primarily because they had MWeb dial-up, and it takes a one-minute call to phone and switch to ADSL 1GB at the same price. Most of them are fine with a 1GB cap; generally they just surf and email. I've always found MWeb technical support pretty decent.
