MXit continues strong growth

I really don't see any functional use in mxit other than perverts finding victims without having to leave the comfort of their homes.... :-)

Well excuse me. :DI keep in contact with my friends all ova the country and my daughter (yes she is on Mxit and I control and monitor her usage). I have many real friends on Mxit. If you not using it do not slander it. Just like the internet it is open for abuse yes but that does not mean we have to shut the internet down does it?:eek:

unfortunately i have to STRONGLY disagree with you... the internet is worse than a little program on cellphones...

If i wanted to i could line up a number of ladies every night from the internet whereas on mxit its a bit more difficult...

So yeah, i think you must try out mxit before making a comment that is just expected as the "norm"
 
11 million .. wow .. and to think I was in the first 1000 to join! lol ...

Anyway, if you don't use any VAS that mxit offers, it's rather difficult to get caught by a pervert ... you use the program just to chat to friends cheaply and conveniently and you are fine. but hey, everybody should know that by now!

If you do use MXit and have experience huge problems with connecting and the like - it's because there are 11 million people using this little program!
 
I am amased at how people can say nonsense such as there is no use for Mxit. 11 million people don't sign up for something that has no use.

Mxit provides exactly the same benefits programs such as Windows Live Messenger (MSN), Yahoo! Messenger, various chatrooms etc. do. In fact, I find it much more handy as it is portable.

Secondly, it's much cheaper too. Logging on mxit in the morning and leaving it running in the background of my phone all day costs hardly a thing. It's far cheaper staying on Mxit to send and receive messages than to have conversations via SMS. Just about everyone in my friendbbase I'm interested in talking to is under the same impression too.

Lastly, Mxit is not a breeding ground for sexual predators. The internet is general is. I have used Mxit for years and years and never have I been "preyed," seen someone fall victim to such a scam or heard of anyone falling for such a thing (minus the cases on the internet blown out of proportion). It is far easier to scam people on other programs than on Mxit simply because the chatrooms aren't used near as much as they used to.

I have heard worse things of "skype" than mxit...

There are some "gross" things on skype...
 
I've been using Mxit since 2005, and I've been with it though its ups and downs. If you don't use any of the extra services and don't spread your cell number around, the only freaky things that can happen are your known friends talking dirty or so on. As also mentioned, Mxit is cheap, due to how it works. However, I have noticed that it's consumption of data has grown with every release, probably because of smilies and status updates and so on.

If you use the value added services, things become a little more grey, as there are some freaks there. I've seen people in dating game try to sell naked pics and vids of themselves for airtime. That was just a bit too weird and quite sad.
 
I have this dream.. Of one day finding somebody on mxit that can actually type in english and not in mxitese

Pisses me off trying to shorten words. Takes longer for me to shorten a word than it does to write the whole word!

But ever tried shortening stuff in afrikaans??? I cant.
 
Well done mxit. What never fails to amaze me is how other international companies aren't copying mxit. I mean its based on the open source jabber protocol. What sets mxit aside from the other programs like mig33 imho is the fact thats its relatively fast and responsive, while the other chat things from over seas I have tried seem to have slow connections.

Its like people at mxit said lets make MSN for the phone and make it simple and fast. Now how come noone else overseas can come out with something exactly the same, but maybe a different business model offereing more stuff for free still beats me.

But I have to say kudos to mxit for being the ones. Mxit has saved me a lot of potential airtime over the years.

lol .. I get so pissed off as well .. what's even more hilarious is that people type like that on Facebook and in emails like that ... yuck!!!! I do shorten some words but sometimes, it just gets out of hand.
