Does anyone know of any way to get mXit working on the Apple iPhone?
Or a way to chat to people on mXit using some other application?
Please share your thoughts, ideas and (hopefully) solutions here.

The iPhone's web browser supports Javascript. This is what the games use. Javascript differs from the mobile type of Java which MXit is written in though. Therefore MXit won't be able to run on the iPhone.

Currently the iphone has no support for any java application.

So theres no mxit on the iphone unless they develop a mxit version specifically for the iphone using its SDK, (which is unlikely since they still havent developed a fully symbian version) or Apple decides to include Java support in future software versions.

That wont work postman. It was developed for windows, not an iphone, and i dont think theres an emulator for phones to run windows apps

Note the "PC" in Mxit PC Beta. The iPhone runs OS X, which is not Windows...

You could try searching for a Java emulator or something of same sort on the internet, though you will most likely need to jailbreak your iPhone in order to get one of those applications working. You could then run Mxit using the emulator.

Yeah but if only the Mxit Team would open External Jabber communication again then we could have "Mxit" on the iPhone...

we would just get a jabber account, add the numbers as [email protected], then sign in using a web-based jabber messenger such as beejive.com http://www.beejive.com/

Have no idea why they arent enabling Jabber support again though...

well have to wait and see what the mxit team decides then...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

MXIT on iPhone

I am a prospective iPhone buyer and a mxit addict, so I have been investigating the idea of mxit on the iPhone.

Sun - the creators of JAVA (The platform which mxit is written for) are in the process of creating a JAVA app for the iPhone. Apple has a few gripes with this, as theoretically, any JAVA application for iPhone can be made available and, if the app doesn't follow the strict conditions as laid out by the iPhone SDK, could damage the phone or user experience. So until Sun releases a Java app, and until Apple allows it to go public, short of jailbreaking one's iPhone, current JAVA-based editions of Mxit will NOT WORK.

Perhaps the mxit team should look at downloading the SDK and creating a new version of mxit using the iPhone SDK. It is relatively easy to create iphone apps - for any programmer. basic C language skills are all that are needed. the SDK includes an IDE. Hint Hint Mxit... get cracking.

No emulator will get Mxit on your phone legally.

in the meanwhile, with the iPhone 3G arriving soon, and multitudes using the old iphone, people could look at creating a Gtalk account with google (talk.google.com) and then navigating to talk.google.com on their iphone where they can add mxit contacts by adding new contacts with <telephonenumber>@mxit.co.za . It's just like adding a mxit contact, albeit on gtalk, and it works. This is because both services are 'jabber' based. It does mean re-inviting all your previous contacts though.

Hope this has helped.
thanks

It works. Used the Tytn app. Same on the Touch Diamond but eish its not so user friendly...:(
