My 1024 kbps line stats (New MSANS)

Okay, so I chatted with the techie who was busy with the new upgrades, even though I only have a 1024 kbps line, it is still interesting to know that I'm less then 500m from one of these new puppies.

As far as I know, they are basically finished with the upgrade in my area, however I have been having a few problems with DC's etc these last few days. So i took a look at my SNR and Attenuation rates, below is what I have (as far as I know, my attenuation seems terrible):

Well, as I've said, I live close to the exchange, it's a block and a half away from me (not those huge blocks either). My ADSL Mode was set to multimode, I changed it to ADSL2+, but I couldn't get a connection at all.

Then you are still connected to your old DSLAM port and have not been cut over yet.
 
Well, if I'm not mistaken, even if that were the case, that attenuation is still quite high :O But as I've said, I know for a fact that it's not 12km away, unless the metric system has changed recently? :O I'm calling Telkom tomorrow though.. And the day after that and the day after that, until they have decided to get Pinky to sort out this #$%# personally.
 
It's 17.5db and 29.0db

Yip that sounds more sane. Any figure over 60 for attenuation means you will either get a very unstable connection, or none at all, even at the slowest 384k speed. And by the way, those are frikkin awesome stats. You should easily be able to get 24mbps ADSL with an attenuation of 17.5db. I'm currently getting 26db, and should be able to get 10mbps (once I migrate from MWEB back to Telkom).

That's a dramatic improvement on the upstream side of things. Downstream also improved but not as much. I wonder what your Margins would look like if you go upgraded to 10Mbit. I mean they're good now but they do drop a fair amount when you upgrade your speed.

Not too bad?

I'm assuming that your attenuation is 15.5dB, which is excellent. You should be able to get the highest speed on ADSL2+ which is 24mbps. Can't be 155dB, your line would be unusable for both voice and data.

Your downstream SNR margin seems quite low considering your attenuation.

Here are my stats on my 10Mb line:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 10015 kbps 1023 kbps
Line Attenuation 16.5 db 10.0 db
Noise Margin 16.7 db 6.8 db

My noise margin downstream was about 29db when I was still on 4Mb
