Downloading p2p and my 1meg is going faster than its supposed to. around 150kB/s
anyone else getting this?

Got the same on an AH account.

I don't think the ISP care all that much. As long as there is free capacity then it doesn't increase the ISPs costs while making customers happy - so thats a win for the ISP. There are disadvantages for the ISP too, but I'll skip that for now.

Hi. I was getting over 600mbit/s on a 4mb uncapped. My Telkom line was syncing at 10 mb. I don't think mwebs speed limiting is up to scratch

Lucky you. That's a DVD in +-60 seconds.

You might find that the file is compressed before it is transmitted to you. So while you are receiving the file at a rate that is higher than 1Mb/s, the actual DSL line utilisation is less than 1Mb/s.

Since signing up with MWeb they have let me run at line speed (6mbps) on my 4mbps account. Just means you will get abuse warnings faster if you don't manage it.

I am also playing with an Afrihost 4mbps package and at odd times they also let it run at line speed. Afrihost is however very erratic. Last night my downloads were running at a max of 100KB/s. Switched over to MWeb again and hit 625KB/s.

Meanwhile in the Mweb offices:

"Hmmm look at this thread on mybb, all these people are getting over the advertised speeds and are telling the world about it!"
"Ha, seems like they are doing our work for us!"
"Let's cut them down"

Not really. I have spoken to MWeb about this. They don't throttle line connections. Up to the user to manage how they are using their account.

I assume your line has been upgraded to 2mb/s
My line was sync'd to 2mb/s and I was getting 140 to 170 kb/s on my 1mb/s uncapped
Now that I've upgraded to 2mb/s uncapped I'm getting 200 to 220kb/s

My MWEB 1Mbps uncapped account is hardlimited to 1Mbps. I can't even get 1Mbps on Speedtest.net, even though I'm on a 2Mbps ADSL connection.
What works for me is to load balance my HTTP traffic across my MWEB uncapped and Afrihost capped account, and then I get above 1.7Mbps in total ;)

I get this under that condition:
