My account got hacked..

I sent a message to a GM, is that all I am ment to do if my account has being hacked or should I be doing something else? How long does a restore normally take?

Changed my password already, um, dont have a Paypal account or CC linked to my Battle.net system so I have not got the authenticator yet.

I personally see myself as also a person whose pc usually are very secure. For whatever reason though it has happened to me, whilst running firewalls, anti-virus, anti spyware the works. I even don't follow links in mails, as well as use my brain. However somehow my account got hacked twice. At least the second time I already had my authenticator on, so they only managed to change my password but nothing else. The hacks stopped after changing the email address on my battle.net account away from gmail.

Thus, I don't care how smart you think you are, if you don't do everything possible to prevent your account from getting hacked, including getting an authenticator, you are not as smart as you think you are. I hate having to have an authenticator, but alas it saved me having trouble with my account the second time around, and how did I get hacked? Well I used a cracked for a stupid application which was how they keylogged me.

+1000 intrawebz. My friend in London sent me a keychain authenticator and no more sleepless nights since then.

Sadly, it's not so easy to get an authenticator in SA unless you know someone.

Or does anyone know of a place where you can buy one? (safe ofc).

Also, use Spybot - Search and Destroy to get rid of keyloggers :)

I also have no anti-virus and have had 0 problems. my cousin also doesn't use any.

No Virus warnings that irritate you, no performance decreases, nada.

if there are viruses on my system, cool - because my PC feels fast & fresh as new :)


If you know what you are doing you will be OK.
 
Do you have to pay for the cellphone authenticator? When I go through the website it seems to want to ask me for paypal information... but a friend of mine says he got it for free?
 
Okay, I changed my password after I realized I got hacked and was able to login with it, now I cant login in with my username and password... do they deactivate your account or something while they restore it?

Never mind.. I see they do a password reset and the Blizzard email ended up in my spam filter.
 
Authenticator application is available for free on Android Market if you have an Android phone. Dont know about the iPhone though.

Hate to be the bringer of bad news, but having an authenticator attached does not make you immune. Authenticators are still vulnerable to middle in the man attacks.

I had anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-jujubeans, anti-everything on my machine. I did not go to dodgy sites, and my account was comprised about 4/5 weeks ago. It took blizzard about 8 hours to resolve for me, i reported it in the morning, that evening i was playing again. Thou i got banned by warden for taking 200K gold from the mail which obviously they thought was bought gold, they swiftly removed the ban realizing that i had that much gold to start with. I re-added my authenticator, and added the longest password i could possibly think of. Since then i have had no issues whatsoever.
 
Seems if you have an iphone or android phone you can get the authenticators free from the markets, but if you have any other phone you have to pay .99c? :wtf:

Ive got an iphone for personal calls, and a N95 for work calls. Wanted to put it on the n95 to save money :D ... meh. Now Ill have to put it on my iphone :/

Anyways, my accounts has being almost fully restored... my never ending potions were not returned, but I have everything else.

I never said it makes you immune, I said it minimizes the damage they can do. Especially if you re-login immediately they usually fail at causing damage. Ofcoarse this helped me realize something was up so I logged in from Laptop running Linux and then started cleaning the windows pc.

So they hack your wow and get your username from it? Or do they hack your pc and get that .txt file?

Didn't say it's 100% fail safe to do it that way, but it does make it a little more difficult for them to get in. :rolleyes:

Any decent trojan or keylogger, will capture all text in a clipboard buffer. Its pretty much the oldest trick in the book.
 
Your username is saved in your WoW directory with all your char and server info.

I have my username ticked in the log-on screen so I don't have to retype it. If I do get a simple keylogger it would get my password but not my username.

It is possible for them to use BattlePing to hack your account.

Once that little black window that runs plink.exe is open, every network transaction not intended for the local network is run through their servers.
They could examine your data and extract the information that the WoW executable (or any other program) is sending by recording your data, it's not that difficult to do.

The login information is heavily encrypted, but, if your PC could un-encrypt it, so can they, with difficulty.
Battle Ping does not charge for their services, so I have to wonder how they make money to pay for their rented space on the servers they use ...

The real problem with Battle Ping is the other stuff that you do while plink.exe is running.
e.g. DO NOT open your banking facilities while plink.exe is running, and do not log into this forum ...
 
The reason battleping is currently not asking for money is cause they are in a beta stage and want feedback from everyone that's using it, and I've actually seen some blizz employees praise batteping here and there so I doubt that they're malicious
