When my wife went into wow this morning she saw I was online:confused: My pc was not even switched on. Next thing different chars come online and selling goods. I changed my password but the ^&%& installed an authenticator code, thus I cannot access my account at all. Anyone have an idea how long Blizzard takes to sort it out? I wonder if i will be compensated for any losses.
 
2-3 days normally, next time have decent anti-virus ,not avg or avast crap though it works but not so secure, need to have firewall with your anti-virus.

and stay away from free mounts trail ,cata invites websites etc :P

They will restore all your items. The problem is the time factor I think. It can take weeks to sort it out. I haven't lost my account as yet but that is what I have read on here before. Your wife should open a ticket in-game and report it asap if she hasn't done it yet.
 
Heh, I got a keylogged from installing a crack for SecureCRT. At least I had my own authenticator on so they could never really get in and do damage, they have however changed my password since I was stupid enough to make my secret where I was born. I swiftly changed my address on my battle.net account so that that won't happen again, as well as email address.

A week ago Symantec End Point protection got a new update, and tada new trojan detected in the keygen, and swiftly removed.

Another reason why I won't use cracked applications again, I'll just use more opensource software like I started doing a while ago.
 
It's not always an intrusion onto your PC.
I have not been running anti-virus software for many years now.

How secure was your password?

We had some peeps use the same password that they use to access the guild forums as their WoW password, and they got "hacked" one after the other over 4 months.
It took a long time before enough of the "hacked" peeps got together to discuss how they could have been hacked.

Im on the same forum, I use the same password... I have not being hacked yet? :confused:
 
bitdedender 2010 not hacked for 3 years now, and i have downloaded cracks etc, or get firewall where you block all ports except wow and http traffic, or allow only certain apps and the rest just block, bitdefender have those options :)

note do not use windows firewalls ,its crap point.

I have zero anti-virus on my PC but have Comodo firewall. And can honestly say, I have had no issues what so ever. Anti-Virus is an over priced worthless crap if you maintain safe internet practice.

Anti-Virus is overrated.....
 
Nowadays antivirus is free. Either use MS stuff, or even Google Pack will install a free spyware/av for you.

Gwd, the free ones are the ones you need to look out for the most :eek:

But afaik, AV is pretty good free anti-virus. But these "free" virus removal software and what not... STAY AWAY !
 
Blizzard busy restoring all my chars. Apparently they were all deleted. I have been playing wow for 3 years and never had issues before, no new add-ons were installed BUT i started using battle ping a while ago, could they hack me through this? How much safer will it be if i enter my password with the virtual keybord that comes with kaspersky?

YEAH. avg free (NOGAL) removed a virus very similar to this from my PC. Most AV programs removed some of it but it always returned re- starting buy inserting a stick. the only AV who detected for deletion was Panda (trial no deletion) and AVG. My favorite MSE as well as Trend plus a few others skipped the bugger. Superantispyware and Mbam also gave a clear bill of health. AVG "free" killed the b@stard.

It was the Brontok virus + a few more. It created "Any existing folder name".exe and Autoinf.inf on stick.

Another recent virii on my kids PC also created Autoinf.inf on stick who autostarts "SUGEB.EXE" (pull in notepad) CLOAKED MALWARE. Also If you do search for *.exe in the explorer folder then the computer reboots.
Nasty bugs coming out.

Very much so. Should be a standard procedure but we fail to use it.

Glad you will be restored.
 
For a normal home user & windows pc... Kaspersky Internet Security is the best home software u will get. There is a reason why they have been regarded as being @ the top of their game for over 10 years. It also helps that its very easy on the resources & have some nice settings you can play with.
 
Woke up this morning... logged into my account and it has being hacked. I shoulda listened to davemc :(
 
Also what helps a bit is to have your username saved and not having to type it in each time.

Read of a person keeping his password in a .txt file then he just copies and pastes it.

I know where the password leak happened :( Stupid forum I am a member of got hacked :(
 
I cannot stress how much an authenticator could have stopped this from happening. it's only 99% safe but I would rather risk that 1% than be hacked again. Also not having a phone compatible with the Mobile Authenticator is just an excuse. There is a damn post on the official forums that explains how to circumnavigate this little problem.
