My Adsl forum making a difference?

Point being, that without telecoms SA as a whole, and us users will all be worse off that we would be without Telkom. 100% of businesses can not run without telecoms, and these businesses would be the first to go under before telkom would go down, but this is paramount to stabbing yourself to piss your parents off. At the end of the day, you hurt yourself more...

I suspect that MrH is trying to say that, for example, if TelkodemonopoliesHindernet had no customers, then it would have no reason to exist, and other ISPs would be able to compete fairly without interference from TelkodemonopoliesHindernet that has a huge unfair advantage.

The only one above with any "brains" is IC, and as for comments like "At the end of the day, you hurt yourself more..." just proves my point that telkom and others rely on the fact that we ar "too scared" to take a stand against them.

And going by the comment "piss your parents off" I assure you that will be very difficult since they both died in their 90s some years ago.

Well according to the website the tower numbers are confidential information and it could comprimise the security of the network when releasing it.
*cough* You mean the same tower numbers (AND names! ) that show up in utTraceStar - and whose locations are easily enough derived from noting the structures on which they're placed and, say, mapping said data to Google Maps (FFS!)...? Sheesh, talk about getting a BAD case of overblown self importance/delusions of ..well; actually just dumbass delusions, and no more than that!

Maybe it's a paint-by-numbers thing that when all numbered base-station dots are joined together, reveals the iBurst master-plan for creating a gateway through which ZooIll from Ghostbusters will enter this dimension...

What I'm talking about is the broader picture and stop all services offered by telkom as that will force them to change or go under, same should apply to any other service in sa (not only telecoms/internet).

Going by your first sentence thats exactly what they rely on and fits the point I was talking about in the first place about most sa customers.

lol, well theres a problem there. They cant "go under" because then the whole of South Africa would have no phone lines and almost no internet.

You know Telkom is WAY too big for a small amount of us irritated users to stop them or even make an impact. Most people are pretty satisfied with their internet because they dont even need much more that what they get, like 3gigs or 4mb. They know its expensive but they arent going to give it up, and alot of people really need their internet, and almost everyone needs their landline. Businesses would also not be able to stop using their service, so it just wouldnt work, but nice thought I guess.

I agree that in the case of the example I mentioned [everyone that is currently a TelkodemonopoliesHindernet customer switching to any other ISP], that it wouldn't happen, simply bcos too many people are still tied to a [in particular] TelkodemonopoliesHindernet email address, many of whom use that email address for business purposes.

One way to stimulate competition in the ISP sector, is to actively encourage businesses and even individuals to use custom domain names [e.g. za.net with say ZoneEdit.com which is completely free], and for example GMail accounts, ergo my forum signature - not that anyone pays much attention...

Unshackle yourselves from ISP-specific email addresses, and you will be free to switch between one ISP and the next without affecting your business or personal email.
...whilst I have never communicated with Ed, I would like to think that Ed will read & reply to my rather critical posts on the subject.
Looks like I was too optimistic, oh well back to reality where iBurst SA does not have a de facto representative on MyADSL - despite having promised many many times to make someone available...
