Getting spares is the issue, from what he told me it doesn't have any Bosch parts either.

Well something burned out, I wasn't actually paying much attention. I'll get the full details when I get the car back.

We could also not find replacement parts for my e36 bmw alternator (bosh) . luckily could find a working 2nd hand unit for r600

Well 2nd hand and new was a no go. Had to get it from the agents for R2600.

IF it happens again, get a new sparky to fix it
Bad wiring, especially between the ignition and alternator will cause it to over-charge (you can check this with a volt meter - anything above about 14.7V is overcharging) and burn out.

Old one, 3 cylinder. The alternator is 2 pin.
I think the newer one is a 3 pin.

As if you would accept someone elses one liner about xyz being possible No numbers, no description, just "I did it." Good to know though that "I did it" is classified as empirical proof

I myself drove from Klein Tafel Berg 4x4 trail to Somerset West just on the battery. It's about 230km. The very next day I still drove to my auto electrician, another 14km.

Funny enough, the battery didn't take any damage. I am still using it today. This happened more than 1 1/2 years ago.
