Tonight I am hoping that Apple prove me right in turning down a Kindle for Christmas. Here's what I am expecting from tonight's announcement.

You can't help but admire Apple's ability/strategy at creating hype/interest at all of their product launches...
No leaks. How are they able to keep things under so much lockdown? They create so much hype in the end it doesn't really matter what's unveiled, geeks/fanbois the world over will go out & buy it.

Name:
iPad, although the worst conceivable name, seems to be the most likely name for the new Apple Tablet. If I am wrong I will be oh so happy! iSlate seems a little less Apple-like and doesn’t really fit the image, but it may be an outside possibility.

Design:
Looks to me like we can expect a 10 inch/A4 page sized tablet with ports and headphone jack all available at the back of the body. I would imagine that the most functional option would be for the tablet to double as a monitor. In other words, dock the tablet and use your wireless mouse and keyboard when you’re in the office, and when you are out, the iPad [ugghh I hate that name] works just like a super sized iPhone.

Almost correct, 9.7 inch display. Not sure about other predictions.

Functionality:
I expect the Tablet to run on an extrapolation of the iPhone OS, with apps portable between both products. The touch screen [most likely OLED] may possibly come with full multi-touch functionality. If so, it will mean a huge leap forward! 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth and the like will come standard I’m sure.

First part is correct, not sure about the rest.

I see MSNBC didn't wait to release an article. Lol, the opportunity to remind us of Apple's past failures was also not overlooked:
