What sort of prices are one looking at for the components? Buttons, controllers, etc apart from the PC hardware.

I paid $3 per button, ex delivery & import, with red cherry mx switches. I also tried some local buttons from Netram (R25). The switches on the Netram buttons were very dodgy. It didn't register all the clicks and the switch sat loosely in the button.

I paid $20 a joystick. (Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT Joystick)

In the end I wanted quality controls, and could only find them from international sites unfortunately.

I have, not impressed at all, and that was with a Rasberry Pi 2 overclocked.

The biggest problem for me, when I tested it out, was that the two MAME programs they used are a bit restricted to what ROMS will work on them. Furthermore, some of the Arcade ROMS I wanted to play, was veeeeery slow (Mortal Kombat 2 and 3 for instance). The same I heard for certain Neo Geo games.

I am now going to salvage some second hand PC parts to put in my arcade cabinet project.

As for the Rasberry, busy with a project to build into a wood case to play SNES, Sega Genesis and NES games with, as well as be able to play movies etc.
 
I'm taking my PC out of my arcade machine and ordered me a Pi3 ,

going to revamp the machine and add a USB drive with roms to the PI....

I however am battling to download Retropie v3.8 as it it is just shy of 1GB and I have a crappy connection, does anyone know of a torrent for this file?

Can't find a torrent, try something like Free Download Manager.
