1. My bf gets a call - on a Saturday nogal - from a chick working for "My Bank" (yes, that one!!) saying my bf is in arrears with his home loan payment.

2. He asks her to indicate for what month.

3. She says she does not know, but he must please pay the arrears amount.

4. He says he cannot pay unless and until he has more details.

5. She says her supervisor will call him the following Monday. It never happens. Whoopee, what a surprise!

6. We send 3 seperate e-mails to ABSA in the space of a week, asking them to indicate what the problem is. The standard response came back: One of our consultants will call you back. Never did. Whoopee, what a surprise!

7. I called ABSA today to ask them to contact my bf (the home loan is n his name, so they will not give me the info) about this and they said ..... he should just give them a call.

WHY? He is not the one alleging that he is in arrears - they are. They ignore his e-mails. WHY? Do they want the money or what? And if so, what money is owing?

I know you guys hate TELKOM and ESKOM, but there is NO service provider in the ENTIRE WORLD I hate as much as ABSA.

Why people continue to bank with ABSA is beyond me. Change to FNB and save yourselves the headache.

Hmmm, what bothers me is how come the lady that called in the first place did not know much - hoax call maybe or attempt at phishing? Might be, especially since nobody else seems concerned, normally banks are quick to sort out stuff if people are owing them money.

How orgasmic is the service received from the other banks? :D
I changed to FNB about two years back, can't say that I ever had a problem since then. No more hassles, no more killer bank charges and free internet banking. I do everything from the internet, the last time that I had to go to a branch personally was when I switched, and the last time that I received a called from them about some arb crap was... never :)

I moved from ABSA to FNB about 2 months ago, and only now do i see how pathetic ABSA really is... FNB is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much beter, way beter client support and banking fee worries is something of the past...

Telkom=Eskom=Absa=*** :eek:

I think it is becuase it is mostly handled by a different department, most likely called collections. And they just get a file with a number and they tell them bug the dude until you get that amount.

I dont think there is central application which all records and details are visible to all departments, hence they can't tell you which month you defualted on.

7. Data security act prevents them from disclosing any info on acc to yourself - atleast the UK acts do. That being said all you requested was for them to revert back to your bf so theyre just being daft.

Hmm, I see the mods fixed my bad language in my OP. Now it almost sounds like ABSA is ....... nice !!!

Not my intention - hope the inference is now more to your liking.

Change to capitec and gain 10% interest and free internet banking.

However, a recent post on this forum indicated that Capitec has very few ATMs. Which means if you need cash, you have to use Saswitch and pay extra anyway. Or not?

They may have few ATMs, but can withdrawal cash at any shoprite/checkers and PnP for R1 no matter what the amount you need.

Also every swipe is free, you really only pay if you want to draw money, but at R1 for any amount, a bonus.

The only thing I did find with Capitec is the target of clients they are targeting seems to always find the branches packed, but once you have opened an account and got your internet banking up and running you NEVER need to go back again.
