Well, eventually replaced my broken Canon SX110 with an SX1 IS yesterday.

It's not a bad camera at all : 10MP, RAW recording, 1st/2nd curtain flash, 28mm - 560mm equivilant zoom lens, hot shoe, Full HD (1080) video etc, manual 1/3200 - 15 second flash, CMOS sensor - so pretty chuffed :)

I know you all said I should go dSLR - but I've already started saving for one ... as - quality aspect aside - I see I can't zoom burst (thanks bana for the phrase!) and a few other more 'creative' scenes.

I chatted to a few other photographers and they said they often a big dSLR and a bridge - so it was a matter of which one first. I chose the SX1!

Congrats Dolby - Hope your happy with it - They must have updated the firmware since 1st released cos i don't think they originaly supported RAW
 
As a matter of interest Dolby what amount of money did you pay?I paid R5999.00 for mine in December2009.Plus plus for the 16GB card and rechargeable batteries plus chargers.
 
Tun@ - yup ... I did read they upgraded to RAW :)

placebo - wow, that's actually an insane price - I paid R6299.00 - no card or batteries. Are you sure it was the SX1 and not SX10? Pricewise, R6299.00 is about the cheapest retail I could find and checking overseas, it's $599 ... so the price was actually decent, I thought.

GTI - thanks ;) I still need the SLR to join the photography ranks though ... hehe

For a point and shoot? :eek:

BTW - overseas (B&H and Adorama) it's $499.

I need two cameras - a bridge and SLR. I can only get one at a time :/

I'm going to Kenya in 2 weeks, so I need something right now. For R6,300.00, I'm getting some almost SLR features (CMOS, RAW recording, 4fps shooting, flash sync, hotshoe etc).

Actually wanted to post a picture I took the other day. I found this cool (well, I think it's cool) feature on the camera itself! Took the photo in 16:9 as well, so don't need to stretch/distort the image to fit it on my desk top ;)

Nice, but probably easier and more effective in PS.

Can't be easier than point and shoot the colour :P I dunno PS yet though.

And - er - thanks. I think I've heard all the Volvo mockery, so I'm used to it ... hehe

Wanna start experimenting in Photoshop and HDR stuff - so need to learn PC processing

OK, maybe not easier, but the colour looks a bit off in the photo. The right rear looks like B&W in stead of a shade of blue. Or was that intentional - I'm assuming the camera is supposed to pick up on all the blue in the scene?
 
Initially it wasn't intentional - but I quite liked it, so left it.

You have levels of the colour to pick up - 10 different levels. So it can pick up the exact blue only, or shade around the selected colour. I had the middle setting.
