ok went to Acer and they must be drinking happy juice or what not with their prices
quote as follows:
new keyboatd R195 + vat - can live with that
new screen R1500 + vat - errrm NOT
so to fix a netbook that costs about 3.5k they want R1932.30
so my options are:
1. Use the netbook as a fixed pc on second screen (which is what we are currently doing)
2. Chuck the netbook and buy a new one - Gigabyte albeit, with smaller screen, but similar specs, for R2300 + vat
3. buy parts from ebay - screen on ebay costs $78, so I can land it here for around R850 - but then I have to still fit it, so with keyboard repair will cost just over 1k
The only reason I would consider fixing it is because it has a long battery life - over 8 hours
so I think I just talked myself into buying the lcd on ebay

I'm not sure where you are in SA, but I have bought a couple of 2nd hand screens from "Let me repair" for customers. It must be mentioned that the laptops were worth the repair. I know there is a branch in George, I think they have branches in DB and Jhb nowadays.
The keyboard is normally very easy to replace. It usually depends if you can remove the keyboard from the top (easy) or need to strip from the bottom (usually much more work involved).
The screen is not to bad either - After removing the the top cover, which you have to do to replace the keyboard anyway, attach to hinges, a plug that must be connected and the mic and camera wires, depending on the setup.
