I'd suggest sticking to mweb uncapped @4mbps and then getting a couple of gigs for surfing that aren't limited to 4mbps.

Mine took about half an hour. I went over to Century City Telkom shop and my line was upgraded by the time I got home.
Just checked MWEB. Uncapped, unshaped @ 4mbps comes to R2359 per month. Does anybody really think it's worth it? Or is there a better deal out there somewhere over the rainbow?
Uncapped + Unshaped = business usage (or someone else is paying, or account is shared)
Uncapped + Shaped = residential consumer, bandwidth usage varies from month to month, can live with shaping, especially during W/O.
Capped + Unshaped = anyone who really, really cant stand being shaped, anytime.
I somehow think Uncapped + Unshaped is not worth your money.
Try getting a 4MB line, upgrade your MWeb to 1Mb or 4MB uncapped+shaped and see how it goes for a month.
Get a XXGB [Some ISP (Afrihost, Webafrica)] Capped+Unshaped acc for one month, and see if that floats your boat.
Have fun, just don't sign up for anything thats not month to month, wants a debit order, or wants to take over your line from telkom.

Very important point that. I was fortunate that my previous ISP (SAOL) moved my line back to Telkom instead of simply cancelling it like some do. That can be a pain in the behind if you happen to be on a congested exchange and there are no more ports available.

OK, I'm almost certain that I want unshaped uncapped on a 4MB line. (I like the odd torrent ..) I think I'm going to cancel MWEB and opt for another ISP package. May I ask for specific advice on an ISP package here or should I start a new thread on ADSL ISP discussions?

Stay with Mweb on their uncapped package and ask Telkom to set your line to 6meg for stability reasons. You'll see slightly better than 430kbps because the over heads are gone.
I sometimes watch streaming videos online. Would it still be OK on 4MB uncapped (but not unshaped) MWEB package? Or would it be heavily shaped? I do this after hours of course!
Nope..the one that says if your exhange supports 10MB.
