Found a dent on the front wheel arch... I'm pretty sure when and where it happened and it was my own fault...

This after 2 sets of scratches in the last few weeks, also my fault...

Seeing that ugly pale undercoat through the pretty green metallic paint makes me feel like I'm seeing the pale layer under my own skin.

They make them really soft nowadays, to keep an entire repair industry in mega profits.
Once again, imagine a world without insurance, where you'd think twice about buying a car that costs over R10 000 to fix a small dent.

That first dent/scratch is always the worst. A few years ago I drove my first new car to university and someone opened their door against it and left a nice dent, I'd only had it for two days.

I don't know why they still call them "panel beaters". They never beat any panels, they just replace them. At great cost to you and the insurers.

Why don't those people call themselves "panel replacers" instead.

It really Irks me that people cannot look after their and/or other peoples stuff, I have many a time come out of the mall/shops and had a nice ding in my door. I have been sitting in the car before when the woman/man in the car next to me get out and bump my door, see me and don't say anything, c*nts.

Oooh, had one of those a few months ago, where an idiot-woman with 3 teenagers parked her Jeep diagonally in a bay. The one kid climbs in and swings her door into my car, so I tell her to be careful. The mom shouts at me that I should learn to accept people's mistakes and then drives off. I was properly shocked and stunned. So her message to those kids: don't apologise or take responsibility for your actions. Make it someone else's problem.

I know where every little dent on my car is - drives me insane spotting a new one... usually courtesy of a mall parking lot.... I despise those places.

I've noticed this too - it's unbelievable. Of course I can hardly complain since I managed to damage my car through my own stupidity. :)

I don't understand why many parents don't teach their kids to respect other people's stuff any more. Is this one of the results of the whole "buddy parent" thing, where parents feel so guilty about not spending enough time with them that they let them get away (sometimes literally) with murder?

Let alone their own stuff! grrrr, getting cross thinking about it!

lol I wouldn't worry to much. I parked my new car in the driveway the day after I got it, hand brake wasn't up properly, car rolled down driveway into driveway gate :D

Was painful at first, but I had to laugh. I now pull the hand brake up properly :p

fail :D

It seems the panel has shifted a bit. When I open the door, I hear a grating noise. :(

So now it's another new experience - finding panel beaters, getting quotes, all that schlep... and no way for me to know when I'm being BS'd.

Aaaaaargh!

If you "found" a dent on the front wheelarch and now the panel has shifted, just how fast were you going when the tree just jumped out in front of you??

Well... I was too embarrassed to explain what happened, but maybe some public humiliation will entrench the lesson and help me be more careful next time. :o

I was reversing out of a parking bay and forgot that if the car's rear end is going in one direction, the front will be going in the opposite direction... Damned power steering.

At the time I didn't realise I'd actually hit the pole, so I only saw it later.

Plus, the car has been in a minor accident before, involving that same panel (before I got it), so maybe metal fatigue in the ... (things that attach the panel to the body, whatever it is they're called) played a role as well.

Really Violet you must tell us the full story first time around! :p

How loud was the music when you hit the pole, or are you just naturally deaf?? ;)

No music, but I was concentrating on the people moving around behind me. Since immediately afterward one of them came to my window, I thought he'd slapped the body to attract my attention - that I was about to hit the pole.

Eish, that sounds even more moronic.

In my defense, though, in the movies it always sounds a lot more spectacular, so I had no idea that's what it actually sounds like. :)
