So to add :

I got 5.3l/100km down to DBN and 5.9l/100km up. So average for the trip was 5.7l/100km which didn't seem too bad? It's just very, very thirsty in bumper to bumper traffic.

Gone in for a service now, cleaning filters, firware etc - so I'll check going forward

Roughly what avg speed were you doing? We got 4.8l/100 down to PE and 5.2l/100 on the way backup (more twisty roads via Queenstown + Aliwal North) avg 120kph in a D4

On the way down, I average 108km/h and 96km/h up.
Distance is roughly 600km and I drove with cruise control / aircon the whole way

I found that I get slightly better economy driving between 100 & 110km/h than between 80 & 90km/h. I have a 1.6 litre diesel though. Even with the 3 litre Fortuner I previously had, 110km/h was also the sweet spot economy wise.
