Now that the title got you here ;)

Had my first fraudulent activity on my credit card last night. R1000 on a website called vcpay or some such name. Wasn't as hellish as I thought it would be. FNB let me know it was fraudulent and cancelled my card. Funds to be replaced once I go into the bank and sign off a few affidavits.

Now... for the suspects. Provided full credit card details to Mr. Delivery (operator) and also had to let the delivery guy carbon copy the front of my card. I did notice the delivery guy look at the back of my card but I assumed he was checkin the signature. I wonder what Mr. D will say when I inform them of this (Gardens, Cape Town).

Definitely.

Wait - you have to go IN to the branch?

This may be the one and only area ABSA is better ...

My discovery card (fnb) was abused twice. I never went into a branch.
They emailed me forms. I signed them, scanned them and emailed them. Job done.

And Standard Bank. I didn't have to go to a branch. Everything was done over the phone. Hope these monkeys get what's coming to them

You must be very silly to allow people to copy your card and then look at your ccv number.

Honestly then people moan about fraud. You are basically giving someone exactly what they need, in my opinion you should pay for the money lost here and not the banks.

He did say he thought the guys was checking the signature which is absolutely normal. You are being unreasonable

It's easy for employees to misuse the CC like that, but it's normal procedure (and required by the bank no less) that they do a carbon copy of CC's and check if there's a signature on the back (and match it to the one you just signed). If they DIDN'T do that they would open themselves up for fraud and lose their ability to process credit cards from the bank.

Unfortunately (I guess) the employees figured they can go rogue with this, especially if you doing Mr. Delivery as your job to earn money

I had a 4k fraudulent txn on my fnb cc. Just phoned and said it wasn't me. Card cancelled, transaction reversed, new card issued without any forms. Just signed when I picked up new card...

Same here. Clearly there is more to this story and that's why the bank want to see him. Which idiot leaves his CVV number on the card for all to see :D Mind you, our domestic wrote her Atm pin number on the card too - to remember it easier. WTF People USE your brain!

The fraudster used VCPay?

VCpay creates a use once only virtual credit card. The fraudster probably used the credit card details to pay funds into his VCpay account. VCpay is not the risk here?

So wait you think it's fine for someone to copy the front of a credit card and then have a peak at the back for the ccv number or signature?

Does that sit well with you considering the country we live in? Geez you may as well put it on the internet as well just to be sure they have enough details to steal.

I was asked by a company to send a pic of my credit card back and front which i did but i took out my ccv number. Once someone has your ccv number it's game over.

That is why my card is blanked out on the back! My CVV number never stay on my cards for more than about a week... committed to memory ftw.

Good idea.

I'm embarrassed to say I never thought of that but then I've never had a fraudulant transaction.

Last Year, some time, my Brand New FNB Credit Card has a fraudulent transaction on it, there were 3 suspects there - Afrihost, Dross or GroupOn - I am sure we can safely say that Afrihost is trusted, so either the Waitress as the Dross copied my details or GroupOn sent my payment details to a 3rd party.

Anyway, around 22:00 at night I get a SMS from FNB saying around 11,000 has been taken off my card from British Airways. Phones the FNB Fraud call center, they verified the card was with me, cancelled the card and emailed me a form that I filled in and emailed back. Funds were reversed and new card delivered.
