my iburst capping experience

Yesterday I decided to see what ibursts capping is like. It was a bad mistake.

Once being capped I was unable to surf the web. Where ever i went it said the page could not be displayed or firefox would say no data in document.

After phoning helpdesk and them changing my password the problem was still occuring. They were willing to give me more bandwidth but i told them it was not worth it considering it was the last day of the month.

Here is the srange thing though. Upon connecting i was able to surf for +/- 1 minute each time before the connection wigged out... Another strange thing I able to connect to the msn network with no problem.

I would like to know if anyone has managed to resolve this issue from their side.

Other then that i am glad i am now uncapped.
 
I can't say I'm too pleased to hear this. I've just switched to the 1G contract from the I-go, the idea being that I'd still be connected once I've used my share up.
Is this a problem just you are experiencing or are there others here?
The more support we can get the more likely Iburst will notice
 
When i asked their help desk if it is a commong problem they said it is and they are still working it all out. The 'fix' that they had did not work for me as it has worked for others i the past. So i dont know if you will or will not experience what i did.

But iburst were willing to give me more bandwidth becuz of my troubles.
 
I spent yesterday capped. No p2p, but browsing and email worked fine. In fact going from site-to-site seemed no slower than before the cap. But you could see a slowdown on content heavy pages.

People who have experienced the "cap of death" have, in the past, been given additional bandwidth by Iburst.
 
I had the exact same experience as halicon, though I didn't try the whole call centre thing. I checked my bandwidth usage and it was around 1.8 Gig (I'm on the G1 option). I could SSH, Use MSN and Skype (Text Chat only). P2P was dead, as well as Mail (in and out) and Web. Anyway, it was pretty terrible
 
I was capped for the last week, and everything seemed OK ... browsing, mail, msn, vpn (pptp), voip (sip), pings etc.

Telkom speed test & downloads ~50-60 kbps.
 
My capping is always fine, and speeds are up to 100kb when it bursts.
My P2P works fine, but only DC++ or Soulseek, I believe other p2p's are dead once capped, only fair really. But DC is fine for me anyway.

I dont believe the death-by-cap is the majority experience here, and Iburst will at least ort it our with a free gig at full speed so its not that bad, but needs to be sotred out. I did just less than 4 gigs last month and was capped for about the last week. And I have been capped every month except for 1 since Ive had Iburst. Never got death-by-cap. But I never go over 4 gigs on my 3gig account.

Pingsare exactly the same and browsing doesnt take much of a hit, it usualy loads sites and pictures quite fast.
 
iBurst is just great even if the capping kicks in. Though the speeds are around 80kbps after capping kicks in.
This is fine for normal downloading of email, msn, skype, browsing local sites.
 
I have the 1G package so I go to the slower line when capped, msn works fine,p2p works sometimes better than normal,browsing fine but you can see there is a difference though,normal downloading I've managed to get anything up to 100KB/s. Guess I just got a lucky package:D
 
That happens sometimes, the line just becomes uncapped for aminute or so, its usually just after a restart of the modem. This is just temporary and I think everyone experiences this. Dont think its a luck package, but the capping is pretty sweet, jus tlike you described it.

The short answer is NO they are not that dumb as then they will probably also lose it.:eek: :p
 
'Reptile2025', if 'halicon' and 'S1ght' don't tell us their little secret, I promise you that I will look away when you might do bodily harm to them and wont tell a soul...

So guys, how'd you do it.....no seriously, HOW'D YOU DO IT!!!!
 
I might of, but i dont use iburst anymore as you can see from my sig.
iburst was wonderful before launch, dropped them bout 2 months after due to capping and the bad shaping. i would go back if they increased their cap, alot, and lifted the shaping a bit.

speed isnt my main concern, looking @ larger cap
