Being realistic with the new telkom prices I have an idea what my best package would be.

Would be nice if some people could put this into a package and sell in a similar way.

International Bandwith: 5-7GB
Unshaped (very low ping) (Wow/skype): 2Gb (can be part of whole)
An unshaped proxy for wow/skype included able to cover the whole 5-7 GB
At least 2 concurrent connections.

Price R350-450

Ok I realise it's pathetic specs ... but in view of recent developments this would suit me the best.

I know clipse is closest to this but the VPN is not part and parcel of package as yet.

Now is my price range at all reasonable with the new changes, or am I out by a couple of hundred rand?

Telkom can offer this, but alternative unshaped offering, will not be covered in that cost your looking at :/

I don't see whats the point of shaping on a connection that is capped. There is absolutely no technical or bussiness reason why a client would want this. And its not like it costs extra not to shape.

Hi Blobnow

ICASA might just support you! Lets hope they see the light.

Hi RPM

You see, that is exactly my problem with ICASA. They allways seem to have the word "might" or "possible" attached to them.

As a regulater they should have "Yes" or "No" and thats as plain as it should be.

I was just reading on the Webafrica forums that ICASA appraently already approved the new prices. According to their representative.

I was under the new impression (from this unverifiable post http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=323217&postcount=49) that ICASA was unable/unwilling to do anything about the new prices so in that respect why would they approve it?

Even according to your link to the WA board any ICASA approval is hearsay or speculation - First
Let me clarify, according to a certain senior Telkom product manager the pricing has been ICASA approved and in line with the competition commision. We haven't got an official response from ICASA yet though.
followed by the same author a couple days later saying
There are some that say its not ICASA approved, we still waiting for clairty though.

so that telkom can use less bandwidth to service more custmers. most ppl are happy if email and www works. also, they would not be able to sell you an unshaped account for double the price!!

I couldn't care less about the latency, but 5-7GB of international would be good

Come Clipse, Give some meat to the request. Put valus in that offering. By Jove I need some concrete developments soon before I cancel this 1024ADSL and take a new 192 and treat it as a 24/7 dialup

my realistic view:

since we live in South Africa and can not have the same prices as the US, UK etc, I'm preapared to pay TWICE as much as they do, which means I should get
2Mbit uncapped unshaped line for R340.00 a month

I think its pathetic that IVY does not know how much calls cost because she does not pay for them, this comes from the head of communcation in South Africa.

I see there seems to be some activtivety in the ADSL market with new providers offering VPN's etc I await decisions from

Budgetadsl
Axxess
Web Africa
and from NukeCap

Come on guys lets see what you guys can do !

Telkom doesn't use more or less bandwidth, at the end of the day you have your 3 gigs.

All they are doing is intentionly crippling one service artificialy to create room for their "premium" service.
