My iPhone 4 Experience In SA

Screen rez, including video, isn't enough motivation to upgrade. Maybe when my contract runs out. For now 3GS it is.

Dropped my iPhone 4 twice in the first two days I had it. First time it chafed the metal on the corner a bit, the second time it actually chipped the glass (both times were on concrete floor). So I decided it might be best to get a cover for it.

That is the exact reason why I bought 4 (yes, 4 ) covers before i even paid for my iPhone 4. Bought a bumper anda hard case, then realised TPU is actually much better. So I got 2 TPU cases
Capdase which i think has great cases, and This one
just looked really funky

I'm getting an iphone 4 from a friend who is coming from the UK soon. Just a few questions.

* I wasn't aware about the micro-sim situation. Can I just go buy a new micro-sim and keep my old number.

* I am on pay-as-you-go atm, how do I get data bundles onto the phone for using the net etc.

* Are there any free gps navigation apps. I see there is a Garmin ap or something similar for like $60 which is quite steep.

* What are the essential Iphone aps to get, I have heard of whatsAp etc, are there any others that are a must.

* I'm definitely going to get a case, can anyone recommend any online shops and what kind of cases are the best, ie bumper, or hard case, etc. I have never bought from e-bay before.

Any help is appreciated

Kylie, congrats on the new iPhone !!!

1. It's probably eaiser (and cheaper) to take your old sim, and cut it to the correct size - it's really easy to trim it down. That way you still get your same sim and number. Or, just buy a micro-sim, and have your network port your number
2. Load money onto your cell number (I do it from my bank online), then go to vodacom4me.co.za, register your sim card, and buy whatever data bundles you need. There are many other ways to do it
3. The free GPS app that I used is really good - it's called "motionX GPS LITE" it is free, and has most of the features of it's paid version. The paid one (motionX GPS) is only a few dollars, so I bought that after using the lite version
4. Apps - well that is a personal thing - I don't know what interests you, so it would be hard to tell you. There are now over 250 000 apps, so do some browsing. Personally, I like Bloomberg, clock radio, Amy A.I, dictionary, DSTV guide, GPS motion X, News 24, bananagrams, BBC news, sleep cycle, truphone, vlingo, whosHere, google earth, Skype, Radio South Africa, FaceGoo lite, iGumtree, virtuoso, whistle, AccuRadio, Facebook.....
5. Don't know about cases, but a quick search will help you out

Enjoy...
