My MSAN exchange

Yeah, VDSL doesn't want to sync but I can get a stable 15Mb sync using ADSL2 (had it for over a week). Telkom just doesn't support that profile and rolled me back to 10Mb saying anything over 10 you have to use VDSL modulation.

So they do have a 20Mb ADSL 2+ profile then... wonder what the purpose of that is if they just remove it.

They are busy laying an MSAN unit about 750m from my house at the moment. They haven't added the concrete block yet, but it is definitely a site.

How long does it take for the laying and cutting over to complete? Anyone have experience with this?
My experience they have been building all over morning side and Benmore and they take a week to 2 weeks one happened in 2 days though

This is false.

I ended up asking my Telkom techie this morning and he said that it was not entirely because the actual speeds would degrade or anything but actually due to the fact that Telkom doesn't allow connections like that normally over a distance of 100-150m unless it is the nearest point to connect to ie no other dslams/MSANS/isams and he said that people did experience problems at distances above that hence telkoms rule against it

That techie needs re-training.

EDIT: You could be misunderstanding him.... he could be referring to the maximum length of the dropwire.

I'm at least 250m away from the MSAN and get perfect 20Mbit VDSL and would be able to get 40Mbit if I wanted.

WTF!!! I'm phoning telkom now I've wanted 20Mb for months. But do they allow switching boxes?

It depends mainly on how the infrastructure is laid out. My office is closer than I am to the MSAN but we cannot get VDSL there because of this exact reason. I have bugged Telkom endlessly with this issue but there is nothing they can do about it currently.

S it depends if there's a link? But my current DSLAM is just under 200m away from the MSAN so is it likely I can get it moved over? Or am I stuc waiting til Telkom reaches mine in January/Feb
