My New FPS

Ok I did three things last night to my pc.

1st

made a wow.bat file on my desktop and added the following in:

@echo off
cd /d "path to wow folder" eg: c:\Program Files\World of Warcraft
start /high wow.exe

2nd

Adjusted my Virtual Memory

Min: 3gb
Max: 11gb

I dont think it was either of these two.

3rd

Added the following to my config.wtf file

SET soundmaxhardwarechannels "12"
SET SoundSoftwareChannels "12"

I think this was the magic trick, it was posted on the WOW forums and many ppl rated it, even though its got nothing to do with video. :)

give it a go and post your results.

PS: Disable Vertical Sync if you have yours enabled.

I have a radeon HD3650 and my framerates arent what they are supposed to be, i'll have a go at this when i get home and let you know the results.

P.S anyone else got this card?

It was probably the sound channels thing. There's a known problem with WoW, Vista, and Creative soundcards impacting framerate and just generally causing poor performance.

On the subject of sound, over the last couple of days i have been having a weird problem where my sound seems to go louder and and softer all the time..its incredibly irritating.. anyone got any answers?

I get a crackling sound with mine. I have tried everything, updating realtek sound drivers. Turning it down a notch in dxdiag. Actually it hasnt been that bad sinc last patch. Maybe this fix I posted above sorts it out too, Dont turn my speakers on when i scan ah. So havent heard anything since i applied the fix.

But sorted out my fps so I am sold ;)

Note:I'm 100% sure, but; This might not be the best idea since you could be bypassing the launcher. The launcher ensures that your wow.exe hasn't been modified by keyloggers/virii. (check your original shortcut to ensure it running the right file)

yeah my pc is running vista and xp dual boot, and the framerate is the same on both.
I have all settings maxed except the "how far you see into the distance" setting along with the pointless "ground clutter" and "ground clutter radius" settings and my framerate sits at around 55-75 outdoors and 45-55 in cities.
IMHO the HD3650 should be pushing out 80ish wherever you are though, thats why i bought the *%$$@ laptop

well then just point it at launcher.exe

I personally never use the launcher, I just play from wow.exe

What that bat file does it run wow in High priority, it can also be done by alt tabbing out and going to task manager and processes and right clicking on wow.exe and setting it from there.

Ok, i tried all the changes apart from the virtual memory, and i must say there is a definite change for me. My pc is noob, but i have gone from 10 fps in major cities to about 30 now. So much better

No change for me either except now when i am in a high zone with alot of different sounds, my machine seems to have difficulty running all the ambient sounds.

another thing you might want to check out could be your plug-ins

last night we switched from a custom UI setup to Mazzle, and it doubled the framerate (limited frame rate though). try mazzle and see if it helps as well
