My new i7 machine..... any recommendations

If you get something like the phenom2 955 you really won't notice a difference between it and the cheaper i7s.

Another advantage is that the mother boards are cheaper plus you can choose if you want ddr2 or ddr3. You don't need tri channel.

trust me 10 seconds in rendering doesn't seem much; but repeat it a few times, do a larger render and so on.

There aren't any 4850s that need an after market cooler. It was just an over reaction because the 4850s were supposed to run hotter. A driver tweak fixed the heat issue anyway.

If you want a good bang for buck card on a budget i'd actually really recommend the 4870 1gig.

seemed like the initial HiS ones needed it; definitly didn't have a very good stock cooler anyways.

I've checked the benchmarks and the i7 beats the AMD phenom 2 9950 in almost everything.
Also if I am building a new PC from scratch, why should I go for older tech, when I can use new tech that will last me a couple a years at least.
Regarding the Case, has anyone used the HAF 922? What about the CM690? Can someone recommend a nice case too, I Dont want a huge case, the size of the HAF 922 seems just about right.

Of course it does. The 9950 is old. Look at the benchmarks for the phenom II 955.

OK, so which AMD processors should i look at? The phenom II AM3? I'm looking for something that will do well with design, 3D rendering and gaming as well. From what I have read, the AMD processors tend to Lag behind with CPU intensive tasks, Autodesk products are CPU intensive, hence the decision to go with intel's i7,

Sad thing is the AMD okes in here are telling you to buy amd for cpu intensive tasks, man the lows they will sink to honestly amazes me every time. Are you amd fanbopys stupid or ignorant? Must be one of those 2 for even mentioning amd for what he wants to do.

Gaming yea fine look at amd but seriously ignore the amd guys this time round as intel whips the amd with the tasks you require not that they want to you to think or that they would recommend intel at any point. They would rather you buy a 3800+ than i7. Maybe quik you should think before you post and see what the user requires before sprouting your amd BS the whole time.

Now can idiots who punt amd regardless of anything else and knowing it cannot do the said tasks better i suggest you read this guru review so you can be less idiotic and think for once

@iDOL those motherboard you recommended are almos 1.5K more than those I want to get, do you suggest I sacrifice on my RAM and graphics to get them? Would the "perfromance" improvement justify this? Or should I just stick to the P6T or Rampage.

@dudewotevr I need to have more RAM, Revit uses a lot of it, and the more the better. I seem to be debating with myself between the P6T and gene II. this review: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/rampage-gene-lanparty,2302.html seems to suggest that the uATX is better.
Regarding the Graphics I'm caught in a dilemma, between the ATI 4870 & 4890 and the Nvidia GTX 260 and GTX 275. Priceless they are very similar. I got some Benchmarks from antowan and they put the GTX 275 at the top, but is it really worth it? Shoul I rather save the R500 and purchase a better motherboard, or case? Any suggestions? I need to finalize this PC, the sooner the better.

Dude mostly a better mobo is just silly thing added in we never use, p6t or gene 2 would be fine, depends on what you want, if you think an expensive mobo is worth it go for it but i have never seen the point in spending crazy money on mobo's.

The 275 or 4890, both will be great. If you like nvidia go with the 275 if you like ati go for the 4890, there is very little to choose between them so either one would be awesome.
