I often see threads about the latest greatest power house that people have - but wondering who else is using an older machine as a daily ?

The only recently purchases have been 2 x Dell 27" FullHD monitors and I've bought a larger Sandisk SSD (240GB)

But as I sit, I'm using the below machine and quite satisfied with the speed (I'm not a gamer). I've started looking briefly, but I'm not super keen on spending the cash when this still works for me. I think the PC dates back to 2012 or something ;)

Intel 3570K processor (3.4Ghz)
MSI Motherboard
8GB RAM
240GB HDD
Nvidia GTX550Ti

Only thing that would concern me would be lack of storage. Don't you save anything or have programmes installed?
 
My main PC is at least 10-12 years old.
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R motherboard
Intel 3.4Ghz
8GB RAM
1TB Drive.
ATI something or other (Was just enough to play BF4 a few years ago)

Have not seen any reason to upgrade. Was running W10 , converted to Ubuntu and still has enough umff to do what I want (Don't really play PC games anymore)
Store files on a local Suse server which is even older and sync backups to Google/Mega.nz

Old ass 2009 1TB Toshiba HDD for storage.

Runs ok but noticeable slowdowns with newer games. Not upgrading anytime soon. Will probably sell if I go overseas or just use it till it dies if I stay.

Hey if it works fine for what you use it for then there is no need to change anything.

The biggest bottleneck you already solved by installing an SSD.

Use it until it breaks.

I consider the 970 a good graphics card. I'm rocking a 1060 and am happy. When I look at modern graphics card prices, I just can't see myself upgrading.

Nothing wrong with that for surfing the net and doing the odd Word or Excel doccie here and there and even watching movies
But, if you're gonna keep it retro then please at least install the latest WinAmp

What do you guys do that requires something for basically just retro games and internet stuff?

How times change. Don't have a single locally stored audio file anymore. Just the offline spotify playlists on my phone.

Yeah this card is a beast. Newer cards are way too expensive and I dont need much to run retro games so no point upgrading.
 
Not a PC but a lappie. My Acer 5680 started dying in stages after it was around 12 years old and was used 18 hours a day most days.

Battery first.
10 years later screen backlight failed.
1 Year after that it would not boot anymore (screaming sounds when booting up XP).

Ive still got it.

With a bit of TLC it would rock again :love:
Small things wrong with the best computer I ever owned. Never a days problems or blue screens when everything was working.
 
Current machine :

Asus M4A785T-M mobo
AMD Athlon X2 250 processor (3.0ghz)
Geforce GTS 250
8gb ram.
500gb hdd
Age : no idea, probaly 12 - 15 years

Would like to get something newer, at this stage anything is a decent upgrade, but prices and availability just not making me pull the trigger.
