Hi guys, recently upgraded my PC. Anyway now this thing is so loud and sounds like a trains engine is running in my room:mad:

What should I do before I rip my brains out:confused:

Its an E6750 CPU

Can one just change the fan and if so with what?

It is stock fan. I know NOTHING about changing CPU fans etc

Stock cooler for that CPU (LGA 775) should normally be pretty quiet (mine is silent).

Is it a second-hand CPU? Some dust build-up in the heatsink maybe?

Is the fan constantly loud?

One can change to an after-market cooler which should make a difference. ;)

Let him live with it for another week, maybe he rips his brains out and notices the CPU's actually pretty quiet :p

You say it's the CPU fan... do you have a stock or aftermarket fan? Are the connections fitted tightly?

It is second hand CPU. Yes it is stockfan.

It is constantly loud

Go buy yourself a non-stock fan for whatever price you can afford, it will firstly cool a little better than the stock fan (and being new it will last longer). Remember the thermal paste. Make sure the fan/ heatsink is connected properly.

If there's no wires sticking into the blades which cause the noise, you'll have to buy a new HSF before that one dies completely :) If you're into overclocking, you can get a really nice one for around R650 or so :p

You can get a nice OC fan for a lot less though... but if you do OC, go for pure copper, not alu/copper. Alu/copper has a poorer heat distrubution capability than pure copper.

I ain't into over clocking how much am I look at?

 Damn, Those guys are overpriced...R194 at prophecy!

back to the topic... A stock C2D fan/heatsink assembly is norm quiet even at full tilt.. strange

Not too overpriced - just that Prophecy has it on special at cost price.

Not to sound stupid but are you sure there are no wires hitting the fan blades?

Most motherboards have a fan setting in the bios, choose 'quiet' if it has one. Also in the bios see what the rpm of the fan is, if it's below 1500 then it should be quiet not loud.
