My PC sounds like a tractor!

Most motherboards have a fan setting in the bios, choose 'quiet' if it has one. Also in the bios see what the rpm of the fan is, if it's below 1500 then it should be quiet not loud.

Take off the side panel of your case and trundle down to the service station.

Also take something long and thin like a sosatie/kebab stick with.

While placing your finger on the CPU fan blade to prevent it spinning, blow all the dust and gunk from the CPU fan and heat sink using the compressed air used for inflating tires.

Take the sosatie/kebab stick and CAREFULLY insert it into the power supply housing just deep enough to anchor the fan blade. Not to deep. CAREFULLY! Repeat the exercise with the compressed air.

** Very important **
You must keep the fan (CPU & PSU) from spinning or you will damage it.

After you have done this, leave the machine OFF for a least an hour in case of any moisture buildup from the compressed air before switching on again.

I run 6 machines at home and every 6 months or so I do this. Quick, cheap way of keeping your machines quiet and dust free. Saves time and thermal paste.

I use an old compressor (older than me ) lying around at home to clean my PC every 6 months - year or so. Works really well. Just remember to not let the fans spin up much, otherwise they'll fry stuff as they'll be acting as dynamos.

Unfortunately a tyre pump wont work, not enough pressure. Needs to be quite a strong airflow.

If there's no wires sticking into the blades which cause the noise, you'll have to buy a new HSF before that one dies completely If you're into overclocking, you can get a really nice one for around R650 or so

When the PC started sounding like a tractor, I checked the wires etc. Or so I thought I did. However this morning decided to take another look.

To my utter shock and surprise there was a small little black wire that I did not see

Touching the CPU FAN, so as you can all imagine I have gone from a tractor to a small car idling. Which I can now live with

Hi guys, recently upgraded my PC. Anyway now this thing is so loud and sounds like a trains engine is running in my room

What should I do before I rip my brains out

Wear ear muffs and take a photo so we can see the train and the ear muffs.

Play loud music and then you shouldnt hear it.

Place a sign on the road, just outside your house - 'Lino's train stop'.

I once rebuilt my brother's PC (can't remember why - an upgrade or something maybe) and I decided to check if everything was working, so I just plugged in the minimal components necessary for the system to run. Every time I switched it on, the buzzer came on, indicating something was wrong. I stripped it down again, made sure everything was properly connected, twice. So about 2 hours of fiddling later, I realized it was just because the case-fan wasn't plugged in, the bios detected 0 RPM from the fan and buzzed every time I switched it on
