My phpbb site isn't working because of dynamic ip

I'm having a bit of trouble running my own small forum that only me and my friends use. It's a one-click phpbb installation on a US shared server.

Now here's the problem: when I (the forum's admin) or any other user try to post or access special features, we have to log into the forum about 8 times before anything goes through, and when looking at the user info, every time somebody does this, it displays 8 guests(same person trying to log in) each with a different ip address. When I noticed this, I tried routing firefox through a SAIX proxy, which gave me a static ip, and then everything worked fine for me. But I can't force every user to use a proxy server just to access the forum, so I need a different solution.

Am I going to have to mess up my site's security just to get it to work? Or is there a different solution?

Any help would be appreciated.

Had the same problem with phpbb, one of the reasons why I dumped it.
IIRC, you could edit one of the core files to reduce the IP check restriction to the first octet or even the second octet of the IP address, this would help a lot with the problem. If you search the phpbb support forums, you should find lots of people bitching about it.

Oh - and the problem isn't because you have a dynamic IP - it's because all SA ADSL users are forced through a transparent proxy farm, hence the IP changes on just about every request.

It's not just phpbb that screws around like that. Try downloading a registered copy of Alcohol from their site = impossible (Fortunately they have a work around).

Forget php forums. Install a Kareha or Wakaba script, like the one on
2ch.net apparently a forum with millions of users,

Yeah I'd pay money to see a video of the board meetings at telkom when they decided on having such a weird and inefficient network setup.

there is a way around the dynamic ip, register with dynamicdns.org or something like that and get a url like http://gerhard.getmyip.com, then in you router there is a place where you can fill your details in and the router will update your url to you current ip everytime is changes. And then in phpbb you just fill in your url as the site url and it should work every time.
