My PSU just blew, grrrr! [Wootware issues]

Just tried to switch on my PC which resulted in a loud bang & flash causing the power to trip. Dead as a doornail, hopefully it did not take anything else with it.

Super Flower SF-450P14XE(HX) Golden Green HX 450W 80 Plus Gold I purchased 9 Feb 2015, can't get hold of Wootware from a landline or cell, NU tone.

Fark I really don't need this right now!
 
I've had many of those blow on me.... both generics and fancy ones.
It's the Eskom oscillating power levels.
The last one nearly caught fire! :D
 
Sucks bru! Maybe look at a UPS/Voltage Regulator for the next one.

And? In my experience they are genuinely the best in terms of customer service in the industry. Rebeltech and takealot think they are doing customers a favour.

When I spoke to them on the phone they said they will sort it out and I must email support with my order# and description of what happened, guy was very apologetic about the failure. Sent mail off just before 17:00 so I'll probably only hear from them tomorrow.

The one thing I don't want is a credit as that won't cover a new psu, I want a warranty replacement, still 3yrs left on the warranty.

In all my years, I've really only lost one motherboard due to power surge or PSU blowing.
they are quite amazing at protecting the boards.

If a super flower explodes, than you might want to check if your power is ok. Or in a very rare scenario, an insect.

Not kidding, I once saw ants crawl into the power adapter of a laptop.

I did a gpu stress test with unigine valley which also chows a bit of cpu. I'll stress the cpu & ram tomorrow when I get a chance.

Only thing I've noticed so far is the system takes longer to boot but I've not connected all the drives as the other psu cables are a bit short.

Gonna play a bit of csgo now.
 
I always keep a spare PSU just in case. But unfortunately it's a very expensive component.

BTW I never heard of Super Flower :p
 
very unfortunate, had a R32k PC inherited from my previous company, it gone and had too replace almost everything...

A bit of a hit and a miss, the lower end ones not so much, they use considerably cheaper topological can nearly guarantee this is a double forward design.The high end ones like 1kw gives a corsair HX a good run for their money.

The problem is circuity and electric components don't like it.The fact that the PSU actually blew up means it very likely blew up protecting the fuse, if the fuse in the PSU is still working, some thing likely blew like rectifying chip which is still okayish,it will not send a massive surge past the secondary side of the PSU....if the protection circuity blew then you would have been in far more trouble.

So entirely depends on what blew.Lost a HDD within a month due to corsair GS700 blowing and for gods sake get a 150watts more on a PSU instead of a bare min PSU.I don't care what PSU guide told you this is the bare min you need, those guides never take the quality of the PSU into account nor real world cap aging and performance.

Being using the same raid max 850 watt psu in a secondary rig for close to 4 years now(daily), I may hear raid max ???, well it's an andyson unit which based on the older ultra PSU's which were pretty decent and ironically you will likely find out that andyson do make PSU's for the other guys and have improved considerably bringing out a titanium unit in 2015

None the less it's super sad this unit failed as it's actually a super unit....

It's not bare minimum, at max load I'm using <50% of the PSUs rated output.
