My Samsung Experience

LG G3 Beat, a budget phone at about the R2.5k (was just over 3k if bought from a cellular provider) mark when it came out.
(The phone is 1.5 years old, running 4.4.2, I could upgrade to marshmellow but I am lazy. Battery life used to be ~5 hours longer on average, but the battery is aging.)

'Usage on battery' - what a funny term for Standby.

Sorry, but what's with the graph? The LG G3 Beat/S is a budget version of the LG G3S, not a flagship. All those devices you have linked are the flagships.

My usage must have been around 14 hours or so, spent a lot of time on WhatsApp over the last couple of days and typing out e-mails. Of course I was listening to music at the same time.

EDIT: Also, I haven't enabled power saving mode. Average screen brightness is about 60%.

EDIT2: My point is that the OP should get newer technology, the power usage of components has decreased quite a bit in the last 2/3 years, especially if you are looking at mid-range devices (which includes the iPhone 5S currently). Don't use 4 year old phones, technology has moved on, sorting out a lot of the problems those phones had.

But you use a large phone of iPhone 6/s Plus size. Better battery life is to be expected on larger devices. The 6/s Plus is up there with the best, and would give you what you need.

My proving wrong the tired misbelief that iPhone battery life sucks was by no means an invitation to you for a dick measuring contest. Accept that iPhone batteries are excellent, and move on. That includes iPhone 5s, more than more than adequate for most people. Heavy users can expect similar readings as my 5s screenshot above.

Bought the s6 edge recently. Having endless problems. Overheating and battery issues, and now I can't get signal anywhere. Have to restart the phone to get a signal but only for a few minutes, then it goes back to emergency calls only.

No, iPhones have never had bad battery life, sorry if I implied it. The point I was trying to make was that newer phones are starting to have better battery life even with all the advancements in CPU power and the added pixels. Those 4+ year old phones are all just running on outdated hardware.

No problem, you didn't. It's more that I'd been replying to someone else.

I agree, but it doesn't mean they don't suit many/most people. It's understandable that someone like yourself, who uses their phone for 14 hours Whataspping and typing emails, while listening to music, would be keen on newer battery tech. ;)

Many people still use iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s. Tending to be close to modern civilisation and power outlets helps.

'Usage' in iOS includes apps running while the display is off e.g. FB refreshing, Emails, Music playing, notification widgets. So those screenshots are about average. My iPad tends to claim 2-3hours usage due to emails, FB, Twitter etc...updating throughout the day even though I only really used it for about an hour that day.

I have that all turned off, except Mail.

This is brilliant!

Another great mid end is the Xperia Z3 Compact, excellent battery life and such a great size for most people. I'd go for that if I wanted something well priced and decent.
